The only thing that matters?

We've assembled a DFW Media Cowboys Roundtable - here at CowboysRoundtable.com - and passed around just enough spiked eggnog to get the party started.

GIFT 1 - JON MACHOTA, THE ATHLETIC: A NEW DEFENSIVE COORDINATOR - The obvious choice is a new general manager. Since that’s not happening this holiday season, I’ll go with a new defensive coordinator. It’s the move that could have the biggest impact on next season.

The 2026 Cowboys will likely have a playoff-contending roster. They’ll have a head coach/play-caller with a full year of experience leading one of the NFL’s best offenses. But can anyone really trust the defense after what we’ve seen throughout 2025?

Get the best defensive coordinator available next month and next year at this time there should be a postseason return.

GIFT 2 - MIKE DOOCY, FOX4 SPORTS:  - I’d like to give the Cowboys the gift of a draft analysis crystal ball. All they need to do is to hit on all eight picks, with defensive talent that can immediately make this unit respectable.

A Christmas miracle? Maybe.

Short of that , can Jerry the owner fire Jerry the … oh, never mind.

GIFT 3 - JAZZ MONET, 'BITCHES LOVE SPORTS': SILENT NIGHT - I’d gift the Cowboys invisible, weightless, noise-canceling headphones. One pair for every player, coach, coordinator, and person in the building. Wear them everywhere. All day.

The Cowboys have dealt with no shortage of obstacles over the past year, and this season has been frustrating to watch. But frustration doesn’t equal failure. The foundation is still there. What matters now is resisting the urge to react to every outside voice and instead committing to the work that actually moves a team forward. That means disciplined roster construction built around fit and chemistry, coaches who put players in positions to succeed, and players who take ownership of their technique, preparation, and football IQ.

Noise doesn’t block, tackle, or adjust protections. It doesn’t fix spacing, communication, or execution. Progress happens when everyone inside the building is aligned, intentional, and locked into the process rather than the commentary around it.

Championships aren’t built in a season, and they definitely aren’t built in the comment section. Turn the volume down, do the work right, and let the results speak when it matters most.

GIFT 4 - MIKE FISHER, COWBOYSROUNDTABLE.COM AND THE FISH REPORT ON YOUTUBE:: A NEW 'CULTURE' - A major sacrifice from Jerry Jones: An admission that this team's "culture'' isn't about the coach or the players or the fans. ...

It's about Jerry.

His greatest gift to himself would be to "fire himself'' as the titled GM so he focus on the one job he's truly brilliant at: Marketing Whiz.

Let Jerry do the "Grand Prix in Arlington'' junk and let him hug Dolly Parton and let him finance oil projects and let him fly around in the helicopter with Stephen A. Smith ... while he moves aside in a way that makes football the Cowboys' priority.

Why? Because as it presently stands ...

"Sometimes Jerry's Cowboys seem like a marketing company that plays football on the side.''

GIFT 5 - J-TUCK, CFO SPORTS, FOX SPORTS: A FOOTBALL IDENTITY - I’m gifting the Cowboys something we’ve desperately needed for YEARS — a true football identity.

We all know the Cowboys are the team you can’t help but watch, whether you love ‘em or hate ‘em. We know the billion-dollar playpen. We know the headlines, the star power, the glitz, and the marketing machine. But the gift I’m talking about goes beyond the spotlight. It’s about creating a culture rooted in on-field success and a style of football you can recognize instantly — even with the volume muted.

This identity starts with turning AT&T Stadium into a real home-field advantage, not a neutral site with better lighting. It’s about chants, fight songs, and traditions that Cowboys fans can rally behind — something that screams Dallas, not corporate entertainment. But more than anything, it’s about becoming a team that’s tough, physical, and competitive in every single phase: offense, defense, and special teams.

No more finesse narrative. No more question marks. Just a football team that reflects the pride and passion of Cowboys Nation. And THAT is the gift this franchise needs the most. - Dallas Cowboys Christmas Gift

GIFT 6 - TIMM HAMM, COWBOYSROUNDTABLE.COM: AN INSURANCE KIT - Yes, A Fully-Stocked “December Insurance Policy” Kit ...

Inside the kit:

  • A Late-Season Clutch Playbook for protecting big leads and sealing games when things get tight in the fourth quarter.
  • A Custom Dak-to-George Pickens Chemistry Set: Because George has been streaky and inconsistent of late, the gift boosts timing and confidence when it matters.
  • A Turnover-Free Eggnog Recipe: One sip eliminates careless interceptions and fumbles during must-win games.
  • Jerry Jones’ Magic Cap-Space Snow Globe: Shake once to free up room to sign a missing piece for the postseason push. Shake twice for a surprise January run.
  • A Bottle of “NFC East Resilience” Cologne: Helps boost the Cowboys past the Eagles for the division title.

GIFT 7 - BIG GAME JAMES, THE BGJ SHOW: GOD'S TOUCH - My gift to the Cowboys would be a touch from God of forgiveness to Jerry ... because that's the only way Dallas is ever gonna see another Super Bowl.

Oh, and also: A GM who's not Will McClay,  but instead someone with real control and sharp football mind who isn't just Jerry's buddy.

GIFT 8 - MARK HOLMES, JOBU SPORTS REPORT: BALLS - My present to the Cowboys ownership is a long trip (away from Dallas) around the world after we give the team a GM with balls.

GIFT 9 - JONAH KUBICEK, MAVSROUNDTABLE.COM CURTAINS! - For Mr. Jones, the best thing imaginable would be simple home decor; maybe a set of new curtains at AT&T Stadium?

Our Mike Fisher has been reporting for years that AT&T Stadium does have curtains, but that Jones refuses to use them.

Maybe the existing ones are a bit shabby? So ... let's buy him some new ones!

BONUS GIFT 10 - RIC SERRITELLA, NFL DRAFT BIBLE: A BUNKER - For Christmas this year, I would like to get Jerry his own personal underground bunker, so that we can store him in hibernation until after the offseason and keep him away from front office personnel decisions.

Now THAT would make for a HAPPY New Year!

BONUS GIFT 11 - NATHAN KARSENO, COWBOYSROUNDTABLE.COM: A 'LIFE IN 1996 STARTER PACK' - The Dallas Cowboys' five "World Champions" banners still hang proudly at AT&T Stadium, but with the 2025 iteration of the team being eliminated from playoff contention, the now-infamous "drought" of meaningful postseason football (yes, including air quotes) will officially eclipse 30 years. So, what better way to ring in the celebration than by taking a trip back down memory lane of life in 1996 to remember the last time Dallas hoisted the Vince Lombardi Trophy - or made it to any sort of championship game?

* Mission: Impossible, Scream and Twister VHS tapes - those movie titles appropriately describe the Cowboys trying to stop opposing quarterbacks.

* Jimmy Johnson-style APEX windbreaker jacket - these seriously need to make a comeback, anyway. They don't make 'em like they used to.

* Beanie Babies - One that looks like Rowdy would be pretty cool.

* 2Pac's "All Eyez On Me" on CD - Get it? "America's Team"?

* Super Mario 64 on Nintendo - CeeDee Lamb and George Pickens have called themselves the "Mario Bros" ... it's perfect!

* YETI water cooler - Got to stay hydrated amid this "drought", am I right?

STUFFERS: Binoculars for Coach Eberflus, owl repellent for Coach Schotty, and a new cowboy hat for DeMarvion Overshown.
