The Cowboys have continued the theme of the draft, adding another pass rusher in LT Overton from Alabama.

The Dallas Cowboys added more muscle to their defensive line for Christian Parker, selecting Alabama defensive tackle/end LT Overton.

With the Cowboys' defense in desperate need of pass-rushing help after the Micah Parsons trade, the Cowboys have now added some more muscle.

But where does Overton fit in the new "3-4 Hybrid'' defense?

With Malachi Lawrence being selected in the first round, we now add Overton, whom Patrik Walker of Dallascowboys.com says the team views as a defensive tackle who sometimes pops outside.

Dallas is suggesting that Overton reminds the team of Osa Odighizuwa, whom they traded away to the San Francisco 49ers this offseason.

Said owner Jerry Jones: “We would have loved Osa (who they'd recently paid $20 million APY), but we couldn’t afford Osa.”

So ... Overton is Osa? Hmmm.

Coming off his best-ever college season, Overton posted 6.0 tackles for loss and 4.0 sacks along with 42 combined tackles. He now brings that production to a Cowboys defense that desperately needs it.

Behind Otito Ogbonnia on the depth chart, the Cowboys will be hoping to see Overton and his relentless motor be a key part of the defense.

Granted, for rookies, it will take time for him to get acclimated to the rigors of NFL football, but Overton, according to several scouts and draft experts, has a high motor and never takes a play off.

Plus, armed with impressive power, he brings physicality to the table, something we know Dallas wants.

And what is perhaps another reason to like this pick is that Overton has had battle after battle with Dallas star guard Tyler Booker from his time in Alabama.

We know what Booker brings to the table, and Overton went against him day after day, so we can only imagine what sort of monster LT can develop into.

"You know if you win a rep against Tyler Booker, you can win a rep against anybody in the country," he said via ESPN's Todd Archer.

And when asked who won, Overton replied: “It was 50-50. That's all I could say."

So, despite being taken in the fourth round, it is clear that Overton is now slouch and the Cowboys know that he can more than hold his own against a player like Booker, which hopefully bodes well for his NFL career.

Five of Dallas' seven draft picks were used on defense, which tells you all you need to know about how they viewed the unit heading into the draft.

Now, the Cowboys have addressed several needs, with Overton being a possible piece of Parker's 2026 puzzle.
