The Cowboys knew the roster needs, had a plan, and executed on draft night, and that hasn't gone unnoticed.

The NFL Draft is now over, and the consensus among fans and the national media is that the Dallas Cowboys hit it out of the park.

With glaring defensive needs, the Cowboys, who had two first-round picks, were likely always going to get Christian Parker two starters for his new-look defense.

And that turned out to be true...and then some.

Dallas selected Caleb Downs and Malachi Lawrence in Round 1. Can they become insta-starters?

Then came Jaishawn Barham, Devin Moore, and LT Overton to give Parker some starters and also some depth/rotational players for a unit that desperately needed it.

But with the Cowboys needing certain players to help push Parker's vision in 2026, sometimes we see teams try to be a little bit smarter than they need to be instead of just doing what they need to do to fill out the roster.

And for NFL Network analyst Charles Davis, who was a guest on 105.3 The Fan, he lauded the Cowboys for their draft haul, but his praise wasn't just on the players Dallas selected, like so many others.

He liked how the franchise executed their plan on draft night.

"I like what they did, and I like when a team understands what it needs, has a way of targeting it, and just goes ahead and does it sometimes,” Davis said. “I think this is natural of all of us in life, right? We all want to be just a little bit smarter than our compatriots. We all want to be a little bit quicker than them.

"We all want to know something or be ahead or zag when everyone else is zigging and have our zag be the move that ah wow you saw that? That's amazing, and sometimes it's just best to just know what you got to do and do it. That's what I felt like Dallas did in this draft.”

The Cowboys had a clear plan, and rather than trying to be smart and make moves that might see them be at the top of the headlines on ESPN, they were calculated in the players they selected for Parker.

Granted, most teams likely take that approach, but the Cowboys addressed several needs with quality players.

It has been an offseason of change at The Star, both on and off the field, and now we eagerly await Oxnard to see how all of this comes together.

Parker has his vision, and the players he thinks can bring it to life, thanks to a draft plan executed to perfection in Pittsburgh.

Now, let's see what Parker has in store for us in the coming months.
