The Cowboys traded away a couple of players in free agency, but did they trade the wrong one?

The Dallas Cowboys' offseason, regardless of your feelings about Jerry Jones' "bust the budget "quote, has been far different from what we've been used to.

In total, eight outside free agents have been signed, and three of them, Rashan Gary, Cobie Durant, and Jalen Thompson, are starting caliber.

But the Cowboys have also seen a host of free agents leave the franchise, too.

Jalen Tolbert, Juanyeh Thomas, Solomon Thomas, and Osa Odighizua are all on new teams.

Thomas and Osa were traded away, as Dallas bolstered its draft hand.

But some are on the fence with the trade of Osa specifically.

In fact, ESPN's Seth Walder, who gave the move a C+ for the Cowboys, thinks the franchise traded away the wrong defensive tackle.

"As for the Cowboys, there is something amusing about their quest to improve at defensive tackle," Walder wrote. "I would actually argue that they are trading the wrong player. Odighizuwa is three years younger than Clark and outperformed him in both win rates and run stop rate last season.

"Granted, those discrepancies would have affected the return, but in a vacuum I would want to keep Odighizuwa as the player next to Williams."

Now, I'm not going to pretend I'm an X's and O's guy, because I'm not, but based on what I have read and heard from people with much better knowledge than I, Osa isn't a scheme fit for Christian Parker.

Whereas Kenny Clark reportedly played his best football in a scheme like Parker's.

So there you go.

Some think that the trades of Osa and Thomas might be to create space for a bigger move, but it appears that isn't the case. Jerry Jones is content with Dallas' business this offseason.

Plus, with the draft looming and the Cowboys having two first-round picks, there is ample ammunition to add to the defense.

But as far as Dallas trading away the wrong player? It appears, based on people close to the team, the franchise made the right decision.
