Cowboys head coach Brian Schottenheimer admitted his counterpart got the better of him on Sunday night.

Dallas Cowboys head coach Brian Schottenheimer, for some, was taught a lesson by Minnesota Vikings defensive coordinator Brian Flores on Sunday night.

Dallas and its coaching staff knew Flores would come with some serious pressure and blitz packages, but knowing they are coming and stopping them are two completely different things.

Time after time, Dak Prescott was pressured, moved off his spot, or had his ball batted down as the Vikings defense did a superb job of confusing not just Dallas' offensive line with defenders rushing from everywhere at any given moment, but the coaching staff, too.

And Schotty - after a 36-24 loss that essentially ends Dallas' plyoff dream - conceded that Flores got the best of him on Sunday night.

“Brian Flores was better than me, and I won’t sleep very good, but I promise you, I’ll wake up tomorrow, I’m gonna work my a-s off, and I’m gonna figure it out," Schottenheimer said.

    Right, taking accountability, got it.

But let's be clear: the Cowboys knew what was coming, had ample time to prepare for it, and still struggled to deal with it.

Is that because the Cowboys were surprised?

    Unprepared?

Or was Flores' defense simply that good?

    Likely all of the above.

But the Vikings' defensive performance has me thinking.

With Matt Eberflus possibly on his final run with the Cowboys over the next three weeks, there is a real possibility that the Cowboys will be looking for a new defensive coordinator.

    So why not Flores?

His contract in Minnesota is up, and yes, it might take a king's ransom to get him out of there, but I offer this as well.

We know Jerry Jones isn't afraid to pay coordinators head coaching money, as was reportedly the case with Dan Quinn, so why not ask the question of Flores?

He can be a controversial figure and he's not part of the "Jones Tree.'' But Flores has skins on the wall, and with what he's done with the Vikings this year? And with Schotty's voicing his admiration for him?

What he might be able to do with the Cowboys' defense is an interesting thought.

Would Jerry go there? Personally, I don't see why not.

But this is Jerry we are talking about, and the most obvious plan of action is the one not always taken.
