FRISCO - The Dallas Cowboys said they were going big-game hunting this offseason. Well, they are ... if you believe owner Jerry "Bust the Budget'' Jones.
But the Baltimore Ravens just went bigger ...
Twice.
With the Cowboys having clear needs on defense, and the offense being mostly set, it makes sense for the front office to be defensive-minded in this search.
And they have been.
Maxx Crosby and Trey Hendrickson have been the two "Ferarri's" we have seen the Cowboys linked with over the past couple of weeks, and that talk heated up just ahead of free agency.
We know that the Las Vegas Raiders' asking price was two first-rounders, and Dallas wasn't going there. The Ravens did, though, so Maxx moved to Baltimore. ... until Tuesday night, when the Ravens reflected on his failed physical, un-doing the deal and shipping him back to Vegas.
Enter Hendrickson? Yeah, but not for Dallas.
He loomed as an interesting watch, given that he is a free agent and wouldn't have required Dallas to part ways with any draft capital to sign him.
But now Hendrickson has jumped to the Ravens as the replacement for Maxx.
And so the Cowboys, who say they are out on the now-available Crosby, are also out on Hendrickson.
Dallas owner Jerry Jones has been true to his "bust the budget'' word in trading for Packers EDGE Rashan Gary.
But Gary is no Maxx. And he's no Hendrickson.
The Ravens got one. Then replaced him with the other.
And Cowboys Nation is on the outside looking in.
