Explosive pass rusher Rashan Gary is reinventing his career in Dallas, impressing coaches with a veteran work ethic and dog mentality while anchoring Christian Parker’s new-look defensive scheme.
The Dallas Cowboys' offseason has been fruitful with several players being signed in free agency. One of those is Rashan Gary.
Via a trade from the Green Bay Packers, Gary joins his former teammate, Kenny Clark, in swapping Green Bay for Dallas as he looks to be a key part of new coordinator Christian Parker's defense.
Gary started 2025 off with a bang, posting 7.5 sacks in the first seven games, but after that, he didn't register another sack.
But he comes to Dallas looking to reinvent himself and lead Parker's new-look defense.
And for head coach Brian Schottenheimer, he had some choice words for what he's seen from the veteran so far this season.
"Rashawn Gary, I've been blown away by his professionalism, his leadership," Schottenheimer said. "He's a grown-[expletive] man. You just watch him work, and he understands what work ethic takes to be a great player, and I'm really, really excited about that."
With Gary now seen as a key part of what Parker is trying to do, many are asking how the veteran will fit into what Christian wants to do.
A scheme that plays with the quarterback's eyes post-snap, instead of sending the house with pressure, how Gary fits into that is going to be an interesting watch over the coming months.
But how does he see himself going quarterback hunting in 2026?
“Film speak for itself, but man, I'm a dog," Gary said. "I play with a lot of effort, cause a lot of pressure. I don't feel nobody like to go against me. I'm just bringing the same energy, same hustle, same mentality.”
Gary has hit the ground running at The Star, but as we know, the offseason is only just beginning, and he's already got a good vibe from Parker and what the young coordinator is trying to do.
Given that it is Parker's first time as a coordinator in the NFL, and Gary has seen many in his seven years in the league, there is something that already stands out about Christian.
"Just his confidence," Gary added. "His knowledge of the secondary, his knowledge of up front, how to maximize his players, how to free guys up, create one-on- ones, give certain looks, make it look the same out of different packages, things like that. But just his football knowledge. Got to have confidence to be a great defense coordinator."
The Parker era has gotten off to a good start, and yes, I get it, it's the Underwear Olympics, the sun is shining, the grass is green, and everyone looks like a Pro Bowler.
But there are good vibes at The Star right ... in part because of Schotty's endorsement of his new "grown-(expletive) man.''
