The Cowboys addressed their pass rush needs in the draft, but it appears some want more additions.
The Dallas Cowboys can feel content with their work in the NFL Draft, highlighted by the steal of Caleb Downs at pick No. 11.
But now that the draft has come and gone, the Cowboys' work isn't done; there are still holes that can be filled if the franchise wants to.
The Cowboys, per Over The Cap, still have a little over $13 million in cap space, so if a player comes along that they like, the franchise has the financial means to make it happen.
But who?
Corner could be seen as a need, but linebacker, for me, is still one position that needs another veteran, say a Jordyn Brooks.
Is edge still a need? The Cowboys have Otito Ogbonnia, LT Overton, and Malachi Lawrence, but do they need more? With Rashan Gary, Quinnen Williams, and Kenny Clark all offering quarterback pressure too?
Nick Halden of FanSided thinks so.
And he's named Joey Bosa as a player the Cowboys should target.
“Already, fans are excited after a strong draft class brought in Lawrence and Caleb Downs to greatly bolster the team’s depth,” Halden wrote. “Signing Bosa feels like the perfect bookend to an offseason full of defensive upgrades. It is at least worth exploring and would give Bosa the chance to play for one of the league’s premier franchises.”
Bosa played the most games in a single season since 2021 with the Buffalo Bills last season (15), so the Cowboys would be wary of that being a one-season wonder for a 30-year-old pass rusher.
Seen as a potential fit in Christian Parker's scheme, Bosa could be a nice addition to a defense that could use a little extra juice. But are the injury worries behind him?
Plus, what sort of contract would Bosa want?
He signed a one-year, $12.6 million deal with the Bills last offseason, and I can't see the Cowboys offering that sort of money for Bosa.
Granted, they might, but the franchise might take its chances with the players on its roster, and if things don't pan out, someone like Bosa could be a training-camp addition.
It isn't the worst idea in the world, and Bosa did have 5.0 sacks and five forced fumbles for Buffalo last season, so a phone call to assess where the veteran is at seems like smart business.
