The NFL adopted the Week 18 format back in 2021 and the Dallas Cowboys have drawn a Sunday kickoff rather than Saturday for the last three seasons.
That pattern will continue as it was announced that Dallas' Week 18 matchup at the New York Giants will be played at 12:00 p.m CST on Jan. 4 from MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford. The game will broadcast on FOX.
The Cowboys, at 7-8-1 and already eliminated from playoff contention, will face the lowly Giants, who at 3-13 won't be upset with a loss that boosts their chances of a higher draft pick.
There has been much discussion about how much Dallas will pursue a victory here with the meaningless outcome suggesting top players like Dak Prescott, CeeDee Lamb and George Pickens should sit to avoid injury.
The star quarterback, in Year 10 as the starter, isn't having it.
Prescott said after the Cowboys' Christmas victory over another division rival Washington that there is "no question" that he wants to play in the season finale against New York.
"I love this game, I love any opportunity that I get to play it. That being said, if I get to go out there, I'm going to give it my best, prepare the same way, I'm going to be the same player that you guys know," Prescott said this week. "I understand, the reasons why maybe not, and if I'm approached with that, I'll handle that then."
Whether head coach Brian Schottenheimer has pitched his QB the idea is unknown. Prescott knows what his answer would be if it's brought up.
"In my mind, any conversations I've had to Schotty or anybody about it would be I'm playing ... I'll have some fight back."

Prescott was sacked six times by the Commanders on Thursday. He'll have a few extra days rest before Week 18, but the Giants' pass rush is among the best in the league and will be another tough test for the Cowboys' makeshift offensive line.
Even in the face of pressure, Prescott totaled 307 passing yards and two touchdowns on his first Christmas Day game. He added 24 yards on the ground as he scrambled out of trouble.
"Definitely wasn't my sharpest," Prescott said about his performance. "A couple of them, they did a good job of putting the top on it. I wanted to be greedy early and I honestly had some of my shots, [and] missed them."
Against the Giants in the Week 2 overtime win, Prescott threw for 361 yards and two more touchdowns while being sacked three times. Though the win doesn't do much, Dak says there is pride in finishing the season strongly.
"Big difference," Prescott said about the team's record either being 8-8-1 or 7-9-1. "A lot of pride, I think that's another reason I want to play. In a season of me being healthy, I've never had, in all of my life, career, a season under .500. So that tie's going to come into play really well. It's a huge difference.
He added about the Washington win carrying momentum: "It's all fun, winning's fun, it's what you do it for. We wanted to end that losing streak and wanted to make sure we can finish this game and next week on a high note in getting wins and taking good momentum into the offseason."
