Prescott is coming off one of the best seasons of his career, and there's one stat that perhaps perfectly sums up how good he was.
Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott was back to his brilliant best in 2025, as he led Brian Schottenheimer's offense with aplomb.
Dak would throw for 4,552 yards, 30 TDs and just 10 interceptions, as he was in the MVP conversation for the first half of the year.
Such was Dak and the offenses' performance, that the defense just had to be average and Dallas was a playoff team. But alas, they weren't and a 7-9-1 record followed.
For Prescott, he is either seen by many as a top-10 quarterback, or he is just downright bad.
Most of us know that Prescott in the regular season, is about as good as anyone when he's healthy. Yes, the 2-5 playoff record is real, and for the most part, Dak hasn't come through with flying colors.
But in 2025, Dak's clutch gene was activated, leading four fourth-quarter comebacks, while having three game-winning drives.
Dak's three game winning drives are tied for his most since 2018 when he had five, and the four fourth-quarter comebacks were Prescott's highest since his rookie year in 2016.
And then there's this from PFF's Mark Chichester. Dak had the best passing grade of any quarterback in 2025 in clutch situations, which he describes as "the snaps that matter most when the game is still hanging in the balance."
"Prescott earned an 87.8 passing grade in clutch situations in 2025, the second-highest mark of his career and nearly 10 grading points better than his previous best (78.3 in 2021)," Chichester wrote.
"The Cowboys quarterback recorded nine big-time throws against just four turnover-worthy plays while averaging 8.1 yards per attempt. More importantly, he consistently stacked positive plays, earning a positive grade on 31.2% of his snaps, the fifth-highest rate among 43 qualifiers.
"Prescott has now cleared a 70.0 grade in clutch situations in six of his 10 qualifying seasons, giving him a stronger long-term track record in these situations than his public reputation often suggests."
So, Dak was the best passer in crucial situations in 2025 and yet still the Cowboys only managed a 7-9-1 record.
Yes, we know why, the defense just couldn't get a stop to save itself.
The hope is that in 2026, Dak won't have to do all the heavy lifting with Christian Parker's defense hopefully a vastly improved unit and can take some of the pressure off the offense's shoulders.
There are a lot of narratives out there about Dak, and the playoff one is justified, so to is his ability to consistently beat the top teams in the regular season, but as far as being a clutch quarterback?
Sorry Dak haters, but he's better than most.
