The Cowboys have two first-round picks, and the franchise has a chance to quickly turn this ship around under Christian Parker.

Much has been made of the Dallas Cowboys' ability to draft high-level talent.

Yes, some have struck out, but for the most part, in the early rounds, the Cowboys, more often than not, hit on their picks.

This makes the upcoming draft, which sees Dallas have two first-round picks, so exciting.

Given that the offense appears to be set, and the defensive needs still have to be addressed, it does feel like at No. 12 and No. 20 will be defensive selections.

With the Cowboys having multiple needs across all lines, the franchise can go anywhere with its two picks, something teams can't usually do.

But the urgent need to improve the defense, the picks can't be wasted. Dallas can't have another Mazi Smith situation. It needs to hit on these selections.

And for ESPN's Tim Hasselbeck, he thinks the Cowboys, who, per a graphic on NFL Live, have drafted the most first-team All-Pro players (20), since 1989, when Jerry Jones bought the Cowboys, are in a good position to fill their needs with quality players.

"I think we got to give Jerry Jones a little bit of credit," Hasselbeck said on NFL Live. "Clearly, he got personnel department working around him, but they've drafted talent extremely well. How guys have turned out that they have drafted in terms of being All-Pros.

"So I do think you look at where they're picking, the fact that there are multiple needs, it feels like it's going to be a defensive pick, and in some ways, there's a bit of luxury in terms of what you end up doing and how you end up fixing the problem."

There does appear to be a confidence that, based on Dallas' draft history, particularly in the first round, the franchise can hit on both selections.

In truth, the team needs two starters, right?

Linebacker is still a crucial need, but that could be filled prior to the draft.

Corner and EDGE are the other areas the Cowboys could look to as well, so, as Hasselbeck said, there is nearly a luxury in how Dallas could fix this problem. Mainly because it can go in different ways.

It will be fascinating to see how the draft board plays out before Dallas picks at No. 12, and then who the franchise picks.

And based on recent history, there's a good chance they'll become an All-Pro.
