The contract saga between the Cowboys and Pickens shows no signs of resolution.

The Dallas Cowboys' contract situation with Pro Bowl receiver George Pickens doesn't appear to be close to a resolution.

With the Cowboys placing the franchise tag on Pickens, most see that as a placeholder until the two sides can agree on a long-term extension.

But for most, the idea of the Cowboys signing Pickens long-term doesn't seem likely. Especially with the Micah Parsons saga of last season still fresh in the mind.

However, it should be said that it is early in the offseason and that the Cowboys have until July 15 to reach a long-term deal, otherwise Pickens plays on the tag.

But ESPN's Adam Schefter isn't confident a deal will get done.

"I'm skeptical that there will be an extension," Schefter said on the Pat McAfee Show. "It's early. It's April 2nd. He's not going to sign that franchise tender without there being a long-term deal.

"I don't see a long-term deal coming into focus until right before the deadline, which would be the middle of July, which tells you that there's a real probability that George Pickens will not be there for the offseason program."

Over the past two weeks, we have heard rumors and reports that Pickens holding out of the offseason workouts is a real possibility...unless he gets a long-term deal.

We have seen the effect that had on CeeDee Lamb when he held out for his deal, so George has to be mindful of that, because the only person who will lose from that scenario is Pickens.

Still, Schefter thinks that this is barrelling towards one thing happening this offseason.

"Now, if the two sides can figure out a long-term deal that I think is going to be very difficult, then that's great and good for both sides," Schefter added. "But if they can't, there's the possibility that we won't see George Pickens in the summer.

"It's set up right now to be a very tricky, challenging situation for both sides."

So this saga still has a long way to go before any sort of resolution, and the fact that Jerry Jones stated no talks have taken place is a head-scratcher.

We will continue to wait to see if the Cowboys will make a concerted effort to sign Pickens long-term, because the longer this goes on, the more it becomes another Micah situation.

And no one wants that.
