The Cowboys have several defensive holes as the NFL Draft approaches, but which one should the franchise prioritize?
The Dallas Cowboys' offseason to date has been good, without being spectacular, as fans expected.
Jerry Jones hasn't busted the budget in the way many envisioned, but the franchise has been more proactive in bringing in outside free agents.
Jalen Thompson, Rashan Gary, and Cobie Durant are starting-caliber players, and the rest are seen as pure depth/rotational options for Christian Parker.
But with the NFL Draft just a couple of weeks away, Dallas' defense still has holes at every level with edge, linebacker, and corner still all big needs.
So, what position should take priority for the Cowboys?
For CBS Sports' Josh Edwards, it's linebacker.
"For months, I have canvassed NFL media with a belief that Dallas will look to be more aggressive this offseason in an effort to be more competitive in 2026," Edwards wrote.
"They were involved in Maxx Crosby trade discussions and are a popular candidate in trade up scenarios. There is some urgency from Jerry Jones to maximize this window with Dak Prescott. There will be an emphasis on adding impact performers, particularly on defense."
Our own Mike Fisher has said the Cowboys will look to add a veteran linebacker before the draft, with Jordyn Brooks mentioned as a possible option.
Others, such as Bobby Okereke, Azeez Al-Shaair, and Bobby Wagner, are also players who have seen their names thrown up for consideration.
In the draft, CJ Allen has been one player the Cowboys have been linked with, but given Dallas needs a linebacker who can wear the green dot and control the defense, can that really go to a rookie?
It can, but in an ideal world, a veteran like Brooks would be that sort of player.
The Cowboys have eight selections in the draft, so one would imagine that one of those picks, regardless of whether the franchise adds a linebacker or not before the draft, will be used to add depth to the position.
Texas Longhorn Anthony Hill Jr. is a player Dallas has been linked with, as has Texas Tech's Jacob Rodriguez. So there are options.
I get the feeling there could be some linebacker movement in the coming weeks, either before or during the draft.
Why? It's the one position the Cowboys haven't addressed in the offseason yet.
