The Cowboys now have their main leaders who will push this team through 2026.
The Dallas Cowboys have named their four team captains ahead of the 2026 season.
With culture and leadership a big emphasis for head coach Brian Schottenheimer, the Cowboys have settled on four players, a slight reduction from the six last season.
The team captain's are:
- Dak Prescott
- Quinnen Williams
- Kenny Clark
- Brandon Aubrey
Our own Mike Fisher calls each name a "sensible" option and we agree.
For Schottenheimer, in what is perhaps a big feather in the cap of the players named, it has nothing to do with the coaching staff.
It was all player-driven.
"It was all player voting," Schottenheimer said. "That's what makes it such an awesome, awesome and incredible designation, that you get voted on by the players and your peers and brothers. There are a lot of other guys that got a number of votes, but those guys were clearly the four highest, and that spoke volumes to me from the numbers."
And that's the inside key here.
With the four mentioned above as the main leaders driving standards and pushing this team forward, they will be joined by others on the leadership council to help maintain what has been built this offseason.
It is perhaps a peek behind the curtain at the player and leader Williams is.
Having arrived as a trade midway through last season, to now be seen as one of the locker room leaders alongside Dak, that speaks volumes.
Of course, there will be other players on the leadership council alongside those mentioned above: Javonte Williams, CeeDee Lamb, Jake Ferguson, Tyler Smith, Tyler Booker, Jalen Thompson, Rashan Gary, and Bryan Anger.
So again, we have Gary and Thompson, who have been here for a minute, already showing what they are about in terms of their leadership and what they can bring to the team off the field.
It appears to be a very deliberate approach this offseason to get players into the locker room who are RKG's ("right kind of guys''), and each one is a veteran leader.
Yes, Dak, Quinnen, Kenny, and Brandon are at the top of the pile, but below them is a group of players determined to help push this team to reach the heights they know they can get to in 2026.
