The Cowboys' quarterback room could look a little different behind Dak Prescott in 2026.
The Dallas Cowboys will enter the 2026 season with one of the better quarterbacks in football leading the charge.
Coming off his fourth Pro Bowl nod, Dak Prescott, leading Brian Schottenheimer's offense, was elite in 2025.
Dak threw for 4,552 yards, 30 TDs, and 10 interceptions, while George Pickens (1,429 yards, 9 TDs) and CeeDee Lamb (1,077 yards, 3 TDs) terrorized defenses.
But the Cowboys' quarterback room has become a little more unpredictable over the past week.
No, I'm not talking about Dak's position at the top of the depth chart.
But behind him.
Most thought it was the Joe Milton show in 2026, as the athletic quarterback showed glimpses in preseason last year, and was Dak's backup last season.
But the Cowboys, it appears, either want more competition for Joe to push his development along, or they aren't fully trusting him, as Sam Howell was signed.
That's training camp battle for the QB2 role, folks.
But overall, when looking at Dallas' quarterback room, how should we feel about it?
Bleacher Report's Alex Ballentine has the panic meter at a two.
"The Cowboys would love to have more postseason success, but Prescott continues to deliver in every other way," Ballentine wrote. "His 2025 season was among his most productive and Dallas has basically doubled down on the passing attack by franchise-tagging George Pickens.
"They also made a notable change at the No. 2 spot. Should Prescott's injury woes crop up again, they'll be either turning it over to Joe Milton or newly acquired Sam Howell. The latter threw 21 touchdowns and 21 interceptions in one full season as the starter in Washington in 2023, but he just spent a year with the Eagles without taking a single snap."
How the battle progresses in camp will be fascinating to see.
Yes, Dak was great last season, but it was also just the second time he's played a full season in the last four years.
So Prescott going around for another 17 games isn't a sure bet, which is why who backs him up is so important.
Milton vs. Howell in Oxnard.
Because while the panic meter is at a two with Prescott starting, if No. 4 goes down, expect the number to climb, and rapidly if either Milton or Howell are asked to step in for a prolonged period.
