The Cowboys usually make headlines for all the wrong reasons at this time of the year, but for once, it's radio silence.
There's no denying that the Dallas Cowboys are moving differently this offseason, and it's a breath of fresh air for Cowboys Nation.
There's been no lingering contract sagas, no throwing verbal barbs at players and agents, nothing.
In fact, it's been the opposite.
Javonte Williams was signed to a new deal with no fuss or attention. Brandon Aubrey signed his deal to make him the highest-paid kicker in NFL history with little pushback.
And then there's George Pickens, who signed the franchise tag, locking him in for the 2026 season.
Tick, tick, and tick.
The soap opera has stopped ... for now.
And for Cowboys legend Emmitt Smith, it's proof that Dallas doesn't need to be the one making headlines all offseason.
"It's important for people to know, 'We don't need all that drama.' We're too good of an organization to be dealing with all that drama. Don't need it," Smith said via USA Today.
"Sometimes you have to rise above the fray, and this is one of those times where we need to rise above the fray. Because the last 31 years have not produced the things that we want to see. There's no reason to be having drama when you don't have to. You don't have to create it."
And Emmitt is right.
The Cowboys are often the masters of their own downfall when it comes to contracts and dragging them out.
Now, for whatever reason, this offseason, things have been done differently. Williams, Aubrey, and Pickens were all signed, sealed, and delivered before OTAs. That's a big deal.
Granted, that is how most organizations work, but Dallas is just catching up.
The big question is how long will this drama free offseason last?
Well, June 16 is the deadline. That's mandatory minicamp and the first checkpoint in the offseason. If Pickens attends and participates, superb. Nothing to see here.
But if he doesn't show up (can get fined) or attends but doesn't practice, then that will create some serious drama that this franchise doesn't need.
You could argue it's been smooth sailing for the Cowboys this offseason, not the stormy seas we've seen in recent years.
And fans will be hoping that for once, it stays that way.
