The Dallas Cowboys' offseason approach was always going to have a distinctly defensive flavor, and so far, that has proven true.
Six new defensive players have been signed for Christian Parker, as the overhaul continues.
But the Cowboys have also made a couple of offensive signings too.
One was lineman Matt Hennessy, the other, somewhat surprisingly, was quarterback Sam Howell.
Having been in the league for three seasons and having 18 starts under his belt (5-13), Howell has bounced around the NFC East. He's played for the Washington Commanders, been on the Philadelphia Eagles' roster, and now he lands in Dallas.
Dak Prescott is the starter here, so don't even get into that "his job is in danger" narrative.
But one player whose job might be in doubt is Joe Milton.
And Sam has detailed how he is going to approach the offseason with his new team, and it will be music to Brian Schottenheimer's ears.
"Just try to be the best version of myself," Howell said. "I just try to put my head down and go to work every single day and try not to worry too much about what the result, outcomes are.
"I just try to do everything I can and be the best version of myself every day and kind of let the results take care of themselves."
Howell will enter the offseason, one would think, as the third-string quarterback.
But make no mistake, he is up to his eyeballs in the backup fight with Milton.
Yes, Joe has shown some great glimpses since arriving at The Star, and he got the majority of reps in the offseason and preseason games last year.
Will Grier has been released, making way for Howell, and now the former Commander is ready to get down to business in Dallas.
Some think that Milton will still edge out Howell because of the potential, but Howell has skins on the wall as a starter.
So this battle won't be as one-sided as some think.
If Milton does win the No. 2 QB job, he will have earned it.
But Howell doesn't seem too fussed by the noise. He's ready to come in, get to work, and let the chips fall where they may.
