Emmitt Smith's son, E.J., inks with the Chiefs as an undrafted free agent, chasing his NFL dream after his collegiate career at Texas A&M.
FRISCO - We are at the stage of the weekend during which all the NFL Draft picks have been made. ...
And it's UDFA time.
Texas A&M's E.J. Smith didn't get picked ... but that means he gets to pick his own team as a longshot to make it to the next level.
And E.J is signing with the Kansas City Chiefs.
Having spent the last two college seasons with the Aggies, Smith posted 557 yards and 5 TDs playing as a rotational player on the offense.
Smith was invited to the Cowboys' "Dallas Day" invite-only workouts recently as the franchise looks to see what Smith has in his tool box that could be of use in 2026.
E.J. could make it as a rotational back in the NFL, and that will have to be the case in Kansas City, where they just signed Super Bowl MVP Kenneth Walker away from the Seahawks.
Smith, in what would have been a nice story, might've ended up with his hometown team, as Dallas head coach Brian Schottenheimer recently mentioned.
"Very cool," Schottenheimer said via ESPN. "You know me, man, I'm family. I'm all family. And you watch his film and he was an incredible short-yardage runner, powerful. But, yeah, just watching him move, seeing him in person, the type of young man he is, it's cool."
But Dallas will rely again on Javonte Williams. And KC will rely on Walker.
And E.J.? At least he's getting his shot at the big-time.
