Decades without a Super Bowl ignite debate: can Cowboys fan boycotts truly pressure Jerry Jones, or is true fandom an unshakeable faith?

FRISCO - Your Dallas Cowboys continue to plod along, as they have now for 30 years, as a not-good-enough team.

They've changed players and coaches and even stadiums, but
"The Drought'' continues on.

What can a passionate-but-disgruntled fan do about it?

How about a "boycott''?

It's been all of these years under owner/GM Jerry Jones ... not only no Super Bowl, but not even an NFC Championship Game appearance since the mid-1990s ... and now I’m once again hearing that somehow the “public’’ - that’s you and that’s me! - should do something to motivate Jerry to end “The Drought.’’

The argument often starts with "Fire Jerry!'' or "Sell The Team, Jerry!'' These are debate points that can be taken seriously, and we all know why.

So, how about you simply quit caring?

And he uses the Philadelphia Eagles’ success as an example of how this fan/team relationship works.

It’s a good try. After all, in the last decade or so, the Eagles have been stellar while the Cowboys have been nothing more than “good.’’

But my argument back: Eagles fans are no more and no less devoted to their team than you are about yours … and they have 1) less to show for it and 2) virtually nothing to do with their team’s success.

Want proof?

From 1962 to 1977, Philly’s combined record is a remarkably dismal 73-142-9. Why didn’t their fan base permanently turn its back on the Eagles right then and there?

Want more proof? You're 2025 season is over at a crummy 7-9-1. ... but you have five Super Bowl trophies. They have two. Why doesn't their fan base hold back its love until Philly gets three more?

Answer: Because like you and your Cowboys, fandom is in their blood.

It is, in Texas and across the planet, your “secular religion.’’ Oh, and you deciding as a New Year's resolution that 2026 is the year that you won’t be buying a Cowboys T-shirt really won’t alter the direction of the franchise.

I’m not trying to butter you up when I say: If Super Bowls were about fan base size and passion, the Cowboys wouldn’t have a “drought.’’ And they’d own far more than five Vince Lombardi Trophies.

So the best a Jerry Jones-hatin' fan can do short of deciding to devote your Sundays to cleaning out the garage?

Hang on for a usually-entertaining - if not always satisfying - Cowboys ride.
