FRISCO - The Dallas Cowboys have been lacking in pass-rushing power ever since the trade of Micah Parsons last offseason.
With new coordinator Christian Parker's defense in desperate need of someone who can consistently get after the quarterback, the big name chased over the weekend was that of Maxx Crosby.
But after reports that the Las Vegas Raiders wanted two first-round picks in any trade? The Cowboys said no, the Ravens said yes, and that was that.
So the Cowboys' attention has turned elsewhere.
And yes, a hot name as free agency opens on Mondy is Trey Hendrickson's.
"Trey to the Cowboys'' is nothing new, with the franchise being linked with the aging pass-rusher for years.
But now might be the time the Cowboys can get him.
"RickeyScoops'' on X suggests this deal is coming - "Sounds like Trey Hendrickson will be joining the Cowboys,'' he writes - and this would surely mean a $25 million APY salary.
That's "busting the budget,'' as Cowboys owner Jerry Jones has promised he would do this spring.
Signing him would require zero draft capital, allowing the Cowboys to continue building the defense through the draft.
Hendrickson is 31. But if they get him and also have the 12th and 20th pick?
Yes, we can hear the concerns about Trey's age, and that is valid. There are also those who are cautious about a move due to his injury in 2025, which saw him play just seven games.
But keep in mind, prior to that, Hendrickson played all 17 games in the previous two years, and played at least 14 in the previous three years, going back to 2020.
The biggest attraction for Dallas is that Hendrickson is a forceful known commodity, and as one football person stated to us, "He just beats his man."
Remember, he registered 17.5 sacks in back-to-back seasons in 2023 and 2024.
There are pros and cons to a move for Trey, but the Cowboys could fill a need while also preserving their draft stock. This registers as an attempt at a power move for the Cowboys - if they can pull it off.
