Many are wondering if Pickens will show up for mandatory minicamp on June 16, but after his latest comment, there should be more nervousness about George showing up.

FRISCO - "Uhhhh.''

One semi-word. As many "H's'' as you'd like to include.

And a lot of guesswork as to what it all means.

All eyes have been on Dallas Cowboys receiver George Pickens this offseason as fans and the NFL world eagerly await to see if he shows up to mandatory offseason workouts.

OTAs have now come and gone, and as expected, Pickens wasn't seen at The Star.

Granted, that was all voluntary, so Pickens didn't have to show up.

But we do work on the assumption that it served as a form of soft protest from Pickens has he has to accept the fact that he'll be playing on the franchise tag in 2026 ... which conflicts with his wish of getting a long-term extension this offseason.

However, when June 16 rolls around here inside The Star? Yeah, that will be the big checkpoint in testing the temperature of his feelings towards the Cowboys - because that day marks the start of a three-day minicamp with attendance mandatory and fines available to be assessed for anyone under contract who fails to show.

We hadn't heard from Pickens at all this offseason, which, to an extent, served as a breath of fresh air.

But now we have an update - a one-word, "four-H'' update.

Nick Harris of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, caught up with Pickens as the Pro Bowl receiver was hosting youth camps at Corpus Christi and McAllen in South Texas. Harris asked Pickens if he would be showing up for mandatory work.

"Pickens gave a shrug with an “uhhhh” before a representative of his agency cut him off to say he would not be answering any more questions," Harris wrote.

And that raises questions.

It seems Pickens was about to answer in a more detailed way before his rep shut down the conversation.

There is a risk in reading too much into "uhhhh,'' and there is a danger in assuming anything at all. Maybe Pickens (and his rep) simply wanted to re-direct the visit to the purpose of his appearance - the kids at his camp.

Still, the exchange - paired with coach Brian Schottenheimer's recent use of the word "hopefully'' regarding Pickens' attendance, which is a step back from previously stated confidence - isn't filling Cowboys Nation with overflowing hope.

We continue to wonder why Pickens would've signed the franchise tag if he planned on missing mandatory work; that makes no fiscal sense.

And we also wonder if Pickens realizes that the reason for Dallas' reluctance to offer him, say, a four-year, $140 million deal, is due to its desire to see continued "good behavior'' from him ...

And how a meaningless minicamp holdout that would accomplish nothing might sidetrack the good reputation that Pickens has built up in the last year here as a Cowboy.

So, Cowboys fans hold their collective breath as they await to see how Pickens plays this in the coming days.

And we believe the Cowboys organization is doing the same thing, with the hope that it gets more than an "uhhhh'' from Pickens before June 16.
