Of all the things Dak does, one AFC coach wants to see one thing he doesn't do as often.
Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott is at the top of his game as he enters Year 11 in the NFL.
After a Pro Bowl season in 2025, Dak is seen by most as one of the better quarterbacks in football, but while his passing has continued to go to new levels, his dual-threat ability hasn't.
With Dak enduring a nasty ankle injury in 2020 and then ripping his hamstring off the bone in 2024, we haven't seen him run as much as he used to. Oh, and he's getting older too.
Still, there are times when Prescott has taken off when a play breaks down to move the chains, and last season, his 177 rushing yards were a big improvement on the 54 in 2024.
Plus, his two rushing touchdowns were tied for the most he's had in a season since 2020 (3).
But as quarterbacks get older, they don't take off as much and become more of a pocket passer; however, for one AFC coach, in ESPN's ranking of the top 10 quarterbacks in football (Dak No. 6), he wants to see Prescott take off more.
"I think he can use his athleticism even more and run for first downs," said an AFC offensive coach. "That would give [the Cowboys] a new dimension."
Now, in theory, that is all good and well, but we know that Dak does have an injury history, so designed quarterback runs likely aren't part of the equation.
But what about the odd read-option, where Dak can choose to give it to Javonte Williams or keep it himself? That could work.
However, that shouldn't be a regular occurrence.
Dak averaged three rushing attempts per game in 2025, most of which were likely due to plays breaking down and Prescott having to take off for yards.
And it was effective, as Dak's touchdown against the Eagles showed he still has some juice in those old legs. But does Cowboys Nation want No. 4 taking off more often as the AFC coach suggests? Not likely.
With his injury issues, the last thing Dallas wants is for Dak to break down on a designed run play, because let's be honest, it would all fall apart if he suffered another major injury to his ankle or hamstring.
So maybe not a bigger volume of rushing for Prescott, but once or twice a game, to pick up some positive yards might not be the worst idea.
