Schottenheimer is ready to see Flournoy in action this upcoming season.
There are a host of things to watch closely as the Dallas Cowboys go through their work in Oxnard, and one is the development of receiver Ryan Flournoy.
We know that Flo is now the No. 3 receiver behind CeeDee Lamb and George Pickens, and as he gets set to enter Year 3, it is noticeable how much bigger physically Flournoy is.
Having clearly spent time in the weight room, Flournoy, it appears, is turning over every stone in an attempt to get better. Being the first on the practice field and the last to leave, and everything in between.
Such has been his rise that even head coach Brian Schottenheimer has had to rebuff special teams coordinator Nick Sorensen, who at times wants Flournoy as part of his group.
And it appears that Schottenheimer is itching to see Flo unleashed in 2026.
"Can't wait," Schottenheimer said. "I thought he had a really good day yesterday. The work ethic is incredible. I think it's more of a fact of him knowing his body, being in year three, working with Harold Nash, Kendall [Smith], Cedric [Smith], those guys in the weight room and knowing what he wants. Then as you grow up, you figure out your diet, you figure out what you're putting in your body.
"I just think he's ready for a huge, huge step this year. He was fed a lot of confidence last year, Detroit, the Jets, he knows he belongs. He knows he's a really, really good football player."
As expected, Flournoy has flashed a couple of times in camp already, albeit without pads on, but still, it is far better than the alternative.
And for Flo, he and Dak Prescott have routinely connected for big gains in the first two practices in Oxnard.
Of course, the name of the game is to stack good days, but Flournoy has been presented with a chance to really establish himself in this offense, and you can make the case he did to an extent last season.
The games against Detroit and New York as Schottenheimer mentioned, but expect more from Flournoy in 2026.
One, because he's going to get a lot more reps, and two, because he's already building a serious foundation in Oxnard.
Schottenheimer can't wait, and neither can we.
