FRISCO - For some fans, when the Dallas Cowboys lost to the Minnesota Vikings, attention turned to the offseason and the NFL Draft.
Or maybe just to Christmas and cleaning out the garage.
With three games left and no playoffs on the cards, what the franchise will do to fix this mess of mediocrity is worthy of great discussion and speculation inside Cowboys Nation.
It is worth me noting - once again - that Dallas has an abundance of the cap room available to accomplish nearly anything it wants next spring, despite some thinking otherwise.
Plus, the two first-round draft picks the Cowboys have also give them ammunition to attack weak areas of the roster.
The 2025 season has been a disappointment to most observers; 6-7-1 is the reality ... and that good stretch for three weeks spanning Thanksgiving now feels like a lifetime ago.
Fans want change on the defensive side from a player and coaching standpoint, and there are still some problem areas on offense, too.
But either way, owner Jerry Jones is bullish on his team going forward and this week dropped an interesting comment regarding this upcoming offseason.
"When I look at the future, our future looks very bright," Jerry said on 105.3 The Fan. "I think we've got key players at key positions. We've got some great draft picks ahead of us and we've got some salary cap room to pay it."
Here we go again.
The Cowboys, at the time of writing, have a little over $23 million in cap space, which will then roll over into 2026. We have previously stated how Dallas can have up to $100 million in cap space this upcoming offseason, so there is ammunition to use.
However, as we know, whether the front office wants to use it is another thing entirely.
And whether they use their tools wisely is yet another.

Last offseason, Dallas hit on grabbing George Pickens and Javonte Williams. And in-season, they added Kenny Clark and Quinnen Williams.
So some credit is due.
With Dak Prescott playing at a high level, the offense is in good shape for 2026. ... though the word "future'' weakens just a bit when he consider that next summer he'll turn 33.
The tools Jerry is speaking of can in theory fix the defense and bolster the offensive line, and yes, done properly, there is reason for optimism here.
Any reason for pessimism? Yup, there is that, too.
After all, remember the "All In'' promise from two seasons ago?
In the end, if you find yourself feeling a bit cynical while you're both semi-paying attention to the 2025 Cowboys' season-closing games and cleaning out the garage, that feeling is justified.
Because when it comes to marketing-minded Jerry pitching his "bright future,'' it's impossible to know whether he's talking about him spending money ...
Or about you buying what he's selling.
