The Cowboys' biggest needs are on defense, so it makes sense to use both first-round picks for Christian Parker's unit, right?

When it comes to the Dallas Cowboys' draft approach, can completely avoid an offensive pick in the early rounds of the NFL draft?

Given the needs on defense, and how many there are, you can make the case that offense is a second thought for the Cowboys. Especially given how potent it was last season.

The only "need" for me is maybe right tackle with Terence Steele. Other than that? Dallas feels like it is in a good position.

Still, that hasn't stopped some thinking that if an offensive lineman dropped to No. 12, that maybe Dallas' head could be turned.

But let me offer you this...what about receiver?

Yes, Dallas already has CeeDee Lamb, George Pickens, and Ryan Flournoy as the top three for Dak Prescott.

Is that enough? Most would say so.

However, as our own Mike Fisher often states, if the next Darren Woodson is there at No. 12, you take Darren Woodson. Meaning go BPA (best player available).

So what if the next CeeDee Lamb slips down to No. 12? Well, in Chad Reuter's latest mock for NFL.com, Ohio State's Carnell Tate is taken by the Cowboys.

"It's unclear whether George Pickens will be traded or play in Dallas on the franchise tag," Reuter wrote. "If Pickens stays, adding Tate on the outside and moving CeeDee Lamb into the slot would be a beautiful setup for quarterback Dak Prescott."

The reaction to this sort of move would be fascinating to see.

And Reuter's other pick at No. 20 for Dallas is Miami EDGE Akheem Mesidor. So Dallas doesn't get a linebacker or corner in the first round.

It is worth noting in Reuter's mock, Mansoor Delane, Sonny Styles, Caleb Downs, and Rueben Bain Jr. are all off the board before Dallas' first selection.

Still, could the Cowboys go receiver?

For me, the only way Dallas goes receiver this early is if Pickens is traded. Otherwise, in my opinion, there isn't a need to draft a receiver that high. In the later rounds? Sure.

But the other side of the coin is, do you pass on the next CeeDee Lamb (Tate's comparison on NFL Network) because of your defensive needs?

That, my friends, is a big conversation starter.
