Dak is coming off one of his best years as a quarterback, but as we enter the offseason, there is one big question mark hanging over No. 4, and it could make or break the season.
There is no denying that Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott enjoyed one of his best years in the NFL under Brian Schottenheimer in 2025.
Yes, the 7-9-1 record doesn't look good, but you can argue that for most of the season, Dak held up his end of the bargain.
Prescott threw for 4,552 yards, 30 TDs, and 10 interceptions as he was in the MVP discussion midway through the season. Still, Dak played to the level we know he can under Schottenheimer.
But now here comes the 2026 season, and my biggest reason for trepidation is because I know how the football gods work, and everything, right now, is coming up Dallas.
There are no contract headlines, no key injuries, no nothing. Instead, the positive vibes are flowing with the hiring of Christian Parker and the drafting of Caleb Downs.
So, what's the big reason for trepidation?
Prescott's health.
Last season, Dak played all 17 regular-season games, something that he has found tough to do over the years, and if there ever was a season that Dallas needed Prescott to repeat it, it's 2026.
But history isn't exactly on Dak's side.
Since 2021, Dak has followed up a season of good health, with a bad one.
He played 16 games in 2021 (still missed one game with a calf strain), then 12 in 2022. In 2023, Dak played all 17 games, and followed that up with just eight in 2024 as he tore his hamstring off the bone.
In 2025, he played all 17 games...so what is to come in 2026?
History would say that Dak is expected to miss time, but the thing is, when he does, it isn't a game or two; it's three or four, and given the Cowboys' schedule and the expectations placed on the franchise after the offseason, Dak needs to be playing 17 games.
The problem is that's been tough to do consistently over the last five or so years.
But what better time to buck that trend than this season, when everything feels like it is starting to come together for Dallas?
Yes, I hear you, and the football gods do as well.
Which is why we need to be cautiously optimistic that Dak, as he enters Year 11, might finally be able to play consecutive seasons as a Cowboy.
