There are a host of players who are fighting for a roster spot, but there is one who I think hasn't gotten enough love.
The Dallas Cowboys' running back room, for the first time in recent memory, won't be a big area of concern.
Yes, the reason for that is Javonte Williams is coming off the best season of his career, rushing for 1,201 yards and 11 TDs. Now that he's signed his new contract, Williams is set to be the lead back for the foreseeable future.
But that brings me to who is behind Javonte and why OTAs and training camp loom large.
We have Malik Davis, Jaydon Blue, and Phil Mafah, who for me, are the three worth keeping an eye on over the coming months.
Blue remains one who fans are eager to see because of the potential he possesses. He has the home-run speed, the elusiveness, and receiving capability to be a key cog in the offensive machine.
We've heard of Dallas' "Thunder and Lighting" vision for Williams and Blue in 2026, thanks to our own Mike Fisher, as the Cowboys likely hope that Blue shows enough that he can take on the No. 2 role and be productive.
We also have a host of rumors involving vets from elsewhere, like Alvin Kamara, James Conner, Tony Pollard and Trey Benson.
But one player who I think is getting a little overlooked in this process is Malik.
Let's not forget, he was signed off the couch last season, and was more than serviceable.
Now, 250 yards and 2 TDs from 52 carries doesn't look like much, but when watching Davis last season, he definitely looked the part.
He averaged a crisp 4.8 yards per carry and had a 50 percent rush win rate, which was likely due to the short-yardage situations he was placed in as he picked up two or three tough yards to move the chains. Oh, let's not forget his 43-yard TD against the Kansas City Chiefs on Thanksgiving, either.
He was stout in pass protection as well, something that Schottenheimer needs his running backs to be good at, and Davis certainly passed that test.
So, should we be discounting Davis to win the RB2 job? Absolutely not. If anything, maybe a little more love should be coming his way.
Now, would I be at ease over the position if Davis were Javonte's backup? A little, but the big question is, and it can be aimed at Blue too, is how confident are we that either Davis or Blue can step in for Williams for say, three or four games if he goes down injured?
That's what likely scares Cowboys Nation and has them a little skeptical over the room as a whole.
Just don't rule out Malik proving this offseason that he finally deserves his shot, and who knows, he might just get it.
