The Miami Dolphins have already released four players, helping reset the roster and cap situation. Now, they could be set to trade Minkah Fitzpatrick.

Monday was the literal and symbolic reset for the Miami Dolphins organization, as the team released pass rusher Bradley Chubb, wide receivers Tyreek Hill and Nick Westbrook-Ikhine, and guard James Daniels.

The four cuts helped the team get into the positive on their cap situation, but more could be coming. A new report indicates the Dolphins are now fielding calls for trading All-Pro safety Minkah Fitzpatrick.

It makes perfect sense that the team under new general manager Jon-Eric Sullivan is operating in this manner. Using the formula from the Green Bay Packers, the team has only given out six big contracts to free agents since 2020. The Dolphins have given out 36 in that time.

With bloated contracts eating up the cap for what could have been multiple years, the Dolphins are now hitting a hard reset to ensure they can not only shed those contracts but also bring in some draft capital to stack for the 2027 season and beyond.

The other aspect of potentially trading Fitzpatrick is to allow him to go to a contender, where he may compete with a team that is in a much better winning situation.

NFL insider Tom Pelissero reported on the potential trade chatter, stating:

"Sources: The #Dolphins have had trade talks with teams regarding 5x Pro Bowl S Minkah Fitzpatrick. Miami released four players earlier this week, including Tyreek Hill, and are in the early stages of resetting the roster under a new regime."

Fitzpatrick returned to the Dolphins after a trade with the Pittsburgh Steelers sent Jalen Ramsey and Jonnu Smith over.

Fitzpatrick put together another impressive season, securing one interception, six passes defended, one sack, and 82 total tackles. He unfortunately suffered a calf injury that knocked him out of the final three games of the season.

There were many who believed that Fitzpatrick was on a downward slope, but he showcased his All-Pro nature in 2025.

Now, the Dolphins might look to send him to a contender in need of a solid safety and get back something in the third round in terms of draft capital, potentially.

Other Dolphins players who could be on the trade block

Fitzpatrick might not be the only player that the Dolphins could seek to trade this offseason. Another player who could find a new team in 2026 is wide receiver Jaylen Waddle.

Waddle was said to be a cornerstone of the Dolphins team moving forward, but his value might also be at the highest of his career thus far. Sullivan might seek to send the receiver off to stack even more capital so Miami can spend big in 2027.

Resetting the roster in this manner will leave the Dolphins with a very thin roster, but Sullivan also stated he plans to build through the draft, which is clearly what the plan is pointing to with the exodus of all these players.

A full reset has been needed for this organization for years, and it now happening in a big way.
