Miami Dolphins edge Chop Robinson has returned to practice, and rookie receiver Caleb Douglas has received an injury update.
The Miami Dolphins got some big injury updates from head coach Jeff Hafley during media availability.
Hafley took to the podium to reveal that edge Chop Robinson has returned to practice. Reports have also indicated that Robinson was not in a red-tag no-contact injury, which points to a major turn in his current concussion protocol.
Hafley also spoke about the injury to rookie receiver Caleb Douglas.
Robinson suffered a concussion during Wednesday's practice ahead of the team's Week 1 matchup with the San Francisco 49ers. Considering the matchup was on Sunday, the edge did not move through the proper concussion protocol benchmarks to ensure that he could take the field.
Concussions can often take a week or more to recover from, but Robinson being out on the field and engaging in team drills points to him being available to play in Week 3 against the Kansas City Chiefs.
Douglas may not be in the same situation, as he suffered a leg injury against the 49ers. During a run-blocking play, the rookie receiver was rolled on and injured his leg.
Douglas was seen with a walking boot, which was initially thought to be a precautionary measure. However, Hafley also offered an update that pointed to the receiver potentially not being out long-term.
"He [Douglas] will not practice today," Hafley said. "He won't practice today. We'll see how he is for tomorrow."
Hafley said that Douglas would miss practice on Wednesday, but he did not ultimately state that the receiver would be out for Thursday or for a long period of time.
Losing Douglas would be tough for the Dolphins, as they are currently utilizing the rookie as one of their three starters in the wide receiver room. Fellow rookie Chris Bell and Malik Washington make up the other two starters.
The Miami offense has not quite clicked in the manner that it needs to and quarterback Malik Willis has yet to establish a full-on chemistry with his receivers. Douglas maybe the outlier as he had an impressive 94-yard performance in Week 1.
Should Douglas miss Week 3, that would put a damper on his ability to develop further with Willis.
Douglas may have missed practice on Wednesday, but he has two more days to be upgraded with the chance to play against the Chiefs.
Hafley might also keep him out of action to ensure he heals completely. Should that be the case, the team might finally utilize veteran Jalen Tolbert in place of Douglas.
Then again, the team might also bring more players via tryouts, as they have had no issue doing so.
