Miami Dolphins general manager Jon-Eric Sullivan provides clarity on Troy Aikman's role with the team ahead of the 2026 NFL Draft.

Miami Dolphins general manager Jon-Eric Sullivan provided clarity on Troy Aikman's role with the team ahead of the 2026 NFL Draft.

Sullivna met with reporters on Wednesday, a little over a week before the draft, and revealed Akiman's role with the team.

"He [Troy Aikman] will not be consulted for picks; he may be in the draft room," Sullivan said of Aikman and his role on draft night. "I can't say enough good things about Troy and, quite frankly, Dan [Marino] for that matter. Troy has been a wonderful sounding board in his own right from afar. Troy will be part of the equation moving forward. What that looks like, we'll see."

Aikman spoke on his role with the Dolphins in early April in a podcast appearance with Dallas Cowboys writer Clarence Hill Jr.

"I think the Dolphins were wise in understanding my relationships around the league. And knowing that I have information they don’t have or can’t get. I think they were smart in taking advantage of that ... I'm pulling for the Dolphins and I feel like I have something at stake," Aikman said.

Earlier this offseason, the Dolphins hired Aikman as a consultant to help the club search for a new general manager this offseason. They ended up landing Jon-Eric Sullivan from the Green Bay Packers, and thus far, he has cleaned house.

While Aikman will be far from spearheading any picks in the upcoming draft, he is poised to do whatever it takes to turn the Dolphins around.

Aikman plans to continue working with the team despite uncertainty surrounding its long-term direction, as multiple questions loom for Miami heading into the 2026 season.

The 59-year-old has an opportunity to elevate the Dolphins (no matter the capacity), given his track record as a proven winner. During his playing career with the Dallas Cowboys, he captured three Super Bowl titles in four seasons, earned six Pro Bowl selections, and spent his entire 12-year career in Dallas.

While Aikman brings experience and leadership, guiding the Dolphins, for at least this season, will be challenging. Miami is not expected to do much in 2026 as they are currently in rebuild mode.

The goal for the Dolphins is to acquire young talent that could help them for years to come. They are heading in the right direction on that front, as they have two first-round picks in next week's NFL Draft.

The Dolphins possess 11 draft picks this season, including seven in the top 100. The 2026 season will likely be a season to forget, but it's all about building for the future.

Miami is in a great spot to do just that in this year's draft. All eyes will be on Sullivan as a new era of Dolphins football is soon to be underway.
