The Miami Dolphins have signed linebacker Andre Jones Jr., immediately making a roster move following their Week 2 loss.
The Miami Dolphins dropped to 0-2 on the season, as they lost to the San Francisco 49ers with a final score of 35-13.
Following the loss, the Dolphins have already made a move to improve their roster by signing special teams defender, linebacker Andre Jones Jr. Jones joins Miami after being on the Buffalo Bills' practice squad.
Jones also has a direct connection with special teams coordinator Chris Tabor, who led the unit for the Bills in 2025.
Jones appeared in three games for the Bills, picking up five total tackles. The young edge setter may be a way for the Dolphins to add some firepower to their pass rush.
Miami once again allowed a quarterback to essentially do whatever they please, as 49ers' passer Brock Purdy had no issues dishing the ball out for 287 yards and two touchdowns, along with 30 rushing yards and one touchdown.
In Week 1, Las Vegas Raiders quarterback Kirk Cousins accomplished something similar, as the pass rush was simply not there for the Dolphins.
Chop Robinson was ruled out for Week 2 due to having sustained a concussion in practice on Wednesday. With Robinson out, the team elevated Clelin Ferrell and Max Llewellyn to try to contain Purdy.
Miami once again did not obtain a single sack throughout the game.
Jones might be a special teams contributor more than a traditional defensive pass rusher, but then again, head coach Jeff Hafley may be making moves to attempt to change things up.
Every team the Dolphins play will be able to pass without issue if they cannot find a way to get after the quarterback.
Considering that general manager Jon-Eric Sullivan has had no issues cycling out players since the start of the free agency period, the Dolphins may need to continue to do so to find the right combination of defensive players.
It is also only the second game of the season, so it is not time to panic, but losing Robinson clearly affected the team in a big way.
Jones is a linebacker and edge player who could be asked to take on a substantial role in Week 3. That is not a guarantee, but this Miami team needs to continue to try new combinations and players out if the goal is not to "win games."
Hafley did say that the season will not be judged on wins or losses, offering a self-aware aspect of what should be expected from such a young and experienced team. However, that does not mean the roster does not deserve to receive upgrades.
