Miami Dolphins running back De'Von Achane reportedly tore his ACL and is out for the season.

Miami Dolphins running back De'Von Achane has reportedly suffered a torn ACL and is now set to be out for the remainder of the 2026 season.

Achane suffered the injury early on in Week 3, and the initial thought was that he had only suffered something minor, but that is not the case.

During the play, Achane was seen being tackled by a Kansas City Chiefs defender, as his right leg was dragged along the ground in an awkward way. After the incident, he remained standing on the field.

The Miami training staff immediately ran out to check on him, and Achane looked to be in physical pain, but the injury was not known at the time. It was thought to be something related to the head area, as the Chiefs defender had dragged him down.

Following the injury, Achane walked gingerly to the sideline and was attended to again. He was not seen entering the blue medical tent, and he instead walked to the locker room.

After the loss, Dolphins head coach Jeff Hafley spoke to the media and stated outright that the injury did not "look optimistic," and now that reason has been revealed.

Achane will miss the rest of the 2026 season and would presumably miss the start of the 2027 season if his ACL tear takes a year or longer to recover from. Every player is different, so it will all be based on his recovery.

Achane is a cornerstone of the Dolphins' offense and team and was described as a "pillar" by general manager Jon-Eric Sullivan and Hafley. That led to the back receiving a four-year, $64 million contract extension in May.

The Dolphins back had big goals for the 2026 season, including his want to bring in the rushing title.

During the 2025 season, Achane had a career year, posting 1,350 rushing yards, eight touchdowns, and a league-leading 5.7 yards per carry. He also brought in 488 receiving yards and one touchdown.

Achane's performance in 2025 led to his lone Pro Bowl, and his ascent was just beginning.

In three seasons with the Dolphins, Achane has totaled 3,057 yards on the ground, with 2o touchdowns. He also had 1,277 receiving yards and 13 receiving touchdowns.

With Achane out, the Dolphins relied on Ollie Gordon II as the lead back, as Jaylen Wright was out due to a foot injury. Gordon also suffered from cramps and was taken out of the Chiefs matchup, leading to wide receiver Malik Washington stepping in.

Now, the Dolphins will need Gordon and Wright to step up as the lead backs with Achane out for the season.
