Miami Dolphins running back Ollie Gordon II has seemingly suffered a significant injury.
Miami Dolphins running back Ollie Gordon has seemingly suffered an injury, as he went down well into the second quarter.
Gordon received a toss from quarterback Cam Miller and was swarmed by multiple New York Giants defenders. Things appeared to be very serious, as the Dolphins back remained on the ground for many minutes.
The good news is that Gordon was able to get up on his own power, but he was favoring what appeared to be his left arm or chest. The back was seen on the telecast making a motion that appeared to signal he could have suffered some sort of arm or chest injury.
Following the injury incident, Gordon was seen being walked to the locker room with trainers.
Gordon is currently in a battle with Jaylen Wright to determine which of the second-year backs would get the job right behind De'Von Achane.
The run game for the Dolphins has struggled mightily in the second preseason outing, as the unit has only managed to secure 35 yards in total through nearly an entire half of football. Miller leads the way with two rushes for 18 yards.
This is the second significant injury that this Miami team has suffered during the game. Earlier in the game, projected strong-side linebacker starter Trey Moore was also injured.
After Moore attempted to tackle quarterback Jameis Winston, he was seen on the ground with what appeared to be a left leg injury. Moore had to be helped off the field with the assistance of trainers, and he could not put weight on his leg.
Moore was then carted to the locker room after he was able to exit the field.
Dolphins head coach Jeff Hafley had indicated that every player should be ready to play, but multiple starters were held out of the game. Those players include quarterback Malik Willis, running back De'Von Achane, and many more.
Considering Miami may have lost two key players to significant injuries, Hafley may choose to be even more careful with his starters in the team's final preseason game next week.
Granted, injuries can happen at any time and are an unfortunate part of every game, but Moore and Gordon being hurt will not be easy to deal with. More so with Moore, considering he has been operating as a starting linebacker.
Gordon may very well be the rotational back that goes in when Achane needs a breather, but now he is dealing with what is presumed to be a significant injury.
