The Miami Dolphins have announced the signing of defensive lineman Cam Rice, while the team also waived safety Tanner Wall.
Following the Miami Dolphins' first preseason game, the team has announced two new roster moves.
Defensive lineman Cam Rice has been signed, while the Dolphins waived safety Tanner Wall to make space for Rice.
Rice played the first two seasons of his collegiate career with Liberty between 2022 and 2023 seasons. He would play for Ohio in 2024 and finish by playing for Maryland in 2025.
Rice appeared in 44 games through his time in college, securing 152 total tackles, 19 sacks, 50 tackles for loss, two interceptions, and 13 passes defended.
The addition of Rice could be due to the injuries to both Zach Sieler and Kenneth Grant.
Dolphins head coach Jeff Hafley revealed that Sieler had suffered an undisclosed injury that would keep him out for weeks. Grant's injury is newer, as he was held out of practice on Monday.
With Miami set to have their second preseason game, Hafley and general manager Jon-Eric Sullivan worked on getting more defensive line depth to participate against the New York Giants.
The Dolphins also waived Wall, who joined the team on Aug. 7 after being a member of the Las Vegas Raiders practice squad.
Wall participated in the preseason opener, playing in 15 snaps and securing two tackles and one defensive stop.
Safety Dante Trader Jr. is working his way back from injury, and his return could have led to Wall being waived.
The expectation for the Dolphins is likely to add more backend depth throughout training camp and preseason. That may especially be true when rosters are cut down from 90 to 53 on Aug. 30.
Despite having solid starters on both sides of the ball, the Miami preseason opener showed a clear disparity in talent between the starters and the second, third, and deeper depth pieces.
Injuries are unfortunately commonplace and the Dolphins will run into a big issue if they do not have quality depth to step in and take over for starters should something happent to them.
Miami also recently brought back quarterback Mark Gronowski after it was revealed that quarterback Quinn Ewers suffered a groin injury that will keep him sidelined. Ewers will be week-to-week, leading to the addition of Gronowski.
More roster moves will need to be made so that Hafley can build the best roster possible for the start of the regular season. Though the starters looked solid against the Washington Commanders' backups, the depth pieces struggled mightily.
