The Miami Dolphins have brought in a linebacker in their latest roster move.
The Miami Dolphins have not shied away from continuing to attempt to bring in players to improve the roster, and that has been the case since the start of free agency back in March.
Now, following their Week 3 loss, the Dolphins made several roster moves. The most recent was the signing of linebacker Shaka Heyward, per Aaron Wilson.
Heyward was signed off the Cincinnati Bengals' practice squad. He has appeared in 18 games over the past two seasons with the Bengals and has recorded 22 total tackles, a forced fumble, and a quarterback hit.
Heyward was also signed directly to the 53-man roster and not added to Miami's practice squad.
The signing of Heyward was done so after the Dolphins made multiple roster moves on Monday.
After placing running back De'Von Achane on injured reserve due to his torn ACL, the team also announced that defensive lineman Keith Cooper Jr. was waived, and edge Clelin Ferrell and defensive tackle Jordan Miller were both released from the practice squad.
Dolphins Buying Into Growth
With the space on the practice squad, expect that the Dolphins are likely to bring in more talent in the coming days.
Miami may have dropped their third loss of the season, but the team is starting to buy into what is being built. Defensively, the Dolphins held the Kansas City Chiefs offense scoreless in the third quarter on Sunday, as the score remained 14-10 until the fourth quarter.
Following the loss, multiple players and head coach Jeff Hafley spoke about the buy-in starting to be evident.
Rookie linebacker Jacob Rodriguez said during media availability that he was plenty happy with the fight that the team showed, but that they need to clean up their fundamentals.
Fellow linebacker Jordyn Brooks echoed the same sentiment, saying there cannot be moral victories, but that the team is starting to show plenty of grit against opponents. That was especially true as Miami held down one of the best teams and offenses in the league for as long as they could.
Hafley also indicated that players who may not have believed before are starting to believe.
Whether or not that turns into a win remains to be seen, but the Dolphins do not have time to rest on that idea, as they will now face the surging Minnesota Vikings on Sunday. If they can upset the Vikings, that could lead to the confidence booster this team needs to start grinding out some much-needed wins.
