The Miami Dolphins are signing former Chicago Bears running back Coleman Bennett.

The Miami Dolphins continue to add players to their roster, as has been the case for the organization through the free agency period back in March.

This time, the team is adding more rushing help, as the Dolphins are set to sign former Chicago Bears running back Coleman Bennett, per Adam Schefter. Bennett recently spent time with the Bears during training camp but was waived last week.

Bennett spent his senior year with Kennesaw State, where he secured 764 rushing yards, four touchdowns, 314 receiving yards, and three touchdowns.

The dual-threat back will now join a room that is led by De'Von Achane, Jaylen Wright, and Ollie Gordon II.

Achane leads the group by a large margin, and Wright and Gordon have been battling it out during training camp for the RB2 spot right behind the Pro Bowl back. Considering how the reserves performed in the second preseason game, this signing makes perfect sense.

The Dolphins dropped a big game to the New York Giants, where both the offense and defensive units underwhelmed in a big way. The purpose of preseason football is to evaluate the depth of the roster, while also determining who may be in the lead in certain camp battles.

Miami has some big issues regarding its depth, as both units played well out of sync, leading to many more roster moves this past week.

Dolphins head coach Jeff Hafley spoke about the roster and the missed "details" as he was discussing the opportunity that was essentially being wasted by the players who may or may not make the 53-man roster.

General manager Jon-Eric Sullivan has not been coy about bringing in players, and that has been commonplace for months. The issue is that Miami must find a way to evaluate these depth players with only four days left to cut the roster down.

There is also the practice squad to consider in terms of filling that out, but the 53-man roster is what is the focus for the Dolphins as they enter this 2026 season.

Miami's starters have been well-known for weeks, though there are some exceptions in terms of certain camp battles. Regardless, expect that the team will be plenty busy bringing more plays in during the coming days.

That will especially be true on cut down day when the other 31 teams start to trim their rosters. If there are some strong roster bubble players that do not make it on their current respective teams, expect the Dolphins to use that as an opportunity to improve their own depth in a significant way.
