The Miami Dolphins have released their inactives list, and linebacker Willie Gay Jr is now out due to an illness.
The Miami Dolphins are gearing up to face the New York Jets after their Week 6 bye. The team has now released their inactives list for this Week 7 showdown, and one key player is now out.
Linebacker Willie Gay Jr. was added to the injury report due to an illness, which has now led to him being ruled out.
The full inactives list is as follows:
WR Jalen Tolbert
CB Marcellas Dial Jr.
CB Reese Taylor
ILB Willie Gay Jr.
Edge Robert Beal Jr.
G DJ Campbell
OL Chukwuebuka Godrick
Gay was limited on Friday due to illness, and head coach Jeff Hafley stated that they would see how he felt over the weekend to determine if he would be able to take the field. Whatever the illness is, it has clearly been a bit more significant than expected.
Gay will now be out. Joining him are wide receiver Jalen Tolbert; cornerbacks Marcellas Dial Jr. and Reese Taylor; edge Robert Beal Jr.; guard DJ Campbell; and offensive lineman Chukwuebuka Godrick.
There are no additional surprises in the inactives list. Tolbert being inactive makes sense with rookie receiver Caleb Douglas returning to the lineup.
Taylor is still dealing with a quad injury that continues to keep him out.
Beal has also been dealing with a hamstring injury that has sidelined him. Halfey said on Friday that he did not expect the edge to be ready to play this week.
Despite the players on the list being ruled out, the Dolphins also got back some key pieces on both sides of the ball.
As stated, Douglas is back after missing multiple games due to an ankle injury. The receiver was the top target for quarterback Malik Willis before he suffered the injury in Week 2.
Additionally, safety and linebacker hybrid rookie Kyle Louis was also activated from the IR and will be returning to play against the Jets. How much the Dolphins utilize him remains to be seen.
Louis has played on special teams, in coverage, and as a linebacker. The dual-threat rookie should return to a prominent role once he heals up.
Miami is coming off a bye and getting some big rest. That could lead the team to play the Jets tough and finally grind out a win.
The issue is that the Jets have been highly competitive in 2026 despite their 2-4 record. Most of New York's losses have come by one touchdown or less.
This will be a tough test for the Dolphins, but they could notch their first win with multiple key players back.
