Miami Dolphins quarterback Malik Willis made an appearance at the rookie mini camp, as he greeted and met many players.
As the saying goes, "appearances are everything." For Miami Dolphins quarterback Malik Willis, that appearance is already going a long way.
While the Dolphins are engaging in their rookie mini camp, the presumed starting quarterback for the 2026 season made an appearance, as a video posted on the team's social media shows Willis engaging with multiple players.
In the video, Willis is seen talking to rookie offensive lineman Kadyn Proctor and linebackers Jacob Rodriguez and Trey Moore.
Though there may be some who consider an appearance at the rookie mini camp as something insignificant, it does show the kind of leadership qualities that Willis possesses. He clearly wants to meet the players he will be playing with and leading, which can go a long way in proving to the young crop of talent that he means business.
Naturally, Willis will want to talk to Proctor for the simple fact that the lineman will be one of the players responsible for protecting him. However, meeting defensive players on the team is great for morale as well.
There have been plenty of videos shared online that show Willis already getting to work with his receivers, and his appearance at rookie mini camp just further proves that he is taking his opportunity very seriously.
Willis was the only major free agent signed by the Dolphins in the 2026 offseason, as they signed the quarterback to a three-year, $67.5 million deal. Though general manager Jon-Eric Sullivan and head coach Jeff Hafley have stated there will be competition at every position, the former Green Bay Packers backup is the clear favorite to be behind center when the regular season begins.
Willis' biggest critique is that he only has six starts under his belt after entering the league in 2022. He was meant to be the franchise answer for the Tennessee Titans, but injuries early on hampered his career.
Willis showed plenty of promise when filling in for the injured Jordan Love in 2025. The dual-threat passer brought in 422 yards, three touchdowns, 1`23 rushing yards, and two rushing touchdowns in four games.
The small sample size was enough for Willis to rocket to the top of free agent boards, and his reported contract potential exceeded $30 million per season at one point.
It was the Dolphins who came away with signing Willis, which makes sense given that both Sullivan and Hafley came over from the Packers. Now, the young signal caller has the chance to lead Miami in the first year of their rebuild.
Nobody quite knows what Willis can be just yet, but he continues to show plenty of promise with his actions on and off the field.
