The Miami Dolphins may be 0-5, but their commitment to rookie play is what is their biggest success.
The Miami Dolphins have had a rough start to their season, as the team remains 0-5 this season. Despite being winless, the organization has stuck to its proverbial guns in terms of getting younger and cheaper.
The roster is full of rookies who are getting invaluable playing time in their first seasons, which is what the biggest success may be for this team at the end of the 2026 season.
Per CBS Sports, the Dolphins lead the NFL by a large margin in terms of overall snaps to rookies. The Dolphins have a reported 2,009 snaps to rookie players, which is vastly more than the second-place team, the Cleveland Browns, which has logged 1,401 snaps to rookies.
Some could argue that the Miami organization relying so heavily on rookie talent is the main reason why this team is 0-5, but that would not be a shared judgment.
Dolphins head coach Jeff Hafley said it himself: this season is not about wins and losses. Granted, the point of playing football is to win games and go to the Super Bowl, but this organization tore everything down to the studs.
The paper-thin roster was constructed to do exactly what it is doing right now. Focus on the draft, select players of high value, and allow them to grow in a manner that will not send the organization back to paying high-priced free agents and getting nowhere.
Former general manager Chris Grier was not a good talent evaluator, and his moves sent the team into paying a record $99.2 million in dead money to former quarterback Tua Tagovailoa. This is in addition to a total of $182 million being paid to wide receiver Tyreek Hill, linebacker Bradley Cubb, and more.
Due to the moves made thus far, new general manager Jon-Eric Sullivan had to take it on the chin and move forward in 2026 with low-cost veterans and rookie talent. Though it appeared to be crazy initially, it's working out just as it was meant to.
Multiple Dolphins rookies are flourishing, which already points to some success that the organization has not found in drafting over the last 10 years when Grier was running the show.
Linebacker Jacob Rodriguez was awarded the green dot and has looked every bit the part of a future All-Pro defender. He currently leads the NFL with 57 total tackles and could be a lock for Defensive Rookie of the Year.
Fellow defender and cornerback Chris Johnson continues to show that he can grow into a lockdown player in the secondary. Johnson is ranked 22nd out of 104 qualified corners on Pro Football Focus with an overall grade of 68.8.
Johnson may be giving up a 73.9 completion percentage and 122.0 passer rating to opposing quarterbacks, but he is learning at a fast pace.
Rookie left guard Kadyn Proctor has drawn plenty of praise from coaches and outside onlookers as well. He is ranked 30th out of 75 qualified guards with an overall grade of 65.7.
Proctor has given up one sack and committed three penalties. He needs to play a bit more disciplined, but one sack in 292 snaps is impressive for a rookie.
Safety Michael Taaffe is giving up a 58.8 completion percentage and 89.1 passer rating to opposing quarterbacks, and continues to grow each week.
Rookie receiver Chris Bell has shown flashes of brilliance with his speed and catching ability. He remains a work in progress due to his ACL recovery, but the growth is there.
The present may be tough for the Dolphins due to the need to have to restart everything, but the future looks incredibly bright with the sheer committment to evaluating and building talent that can lead to a sustained winner.
