Some players that the Miami Dolphins could be aiming to extend next, following the deal handed out to running back De'Von Achane.
After weeks and months of Miami Dolphins running back De'Von Achane being spoken about as a "foundational piece," the organization made good on proving that fact. Achane was awarded a four-year, $68 million deal, making him the third-highest-paid back in the league.
Now, all eyes will be on the Dolphins in terms of additional players they referred to as foundational pieces. Despite a rebuild, there are several players who should be next in getting their own deal.
Honorable Mention - Greg Dulcich
I understand putting a player that was just given a one-year deal here as the next in line for an extension may sound odd, but tight end Greg Dulich has the makings of what could make him a multi-year candidate for the Dolphins.
Dulcich joined the team in October off the practice squad and began to show some immediate playmaking abilities. He turned 10 games into 411 yards, two touchdowns, and a 12.5 yards per reception average.
Dulcich continues to be talked about among coaches as a strong player who can lead. Should he explode more in 2025, expect his one-year deal to fetch more in the 2027 offseason.
3. Tyrel Dodson
Linebacker Tyrel Dodson may not be mentioned among some of the other players that will be listed here, but he has turned being placed on waivers into a career year.
Dodson joined the Dolphins in November 2024, bringing in 34 tackles and four passes defended. After impressing early on, he exploded in 2025 to the tune of five sacks, 129 total tackles, and one interception.
Dodson was second on the team in tackles and became a huge contributor. Considering how solid the linebacker unit can become with Dodson, Jordyn Brooks, and Jacob Rodriguez, expect him to receive a new deal.
2. Jordyn Brooks
Fellow linebacker Jordyn Brooks could have been the top on this list, but he will be second simply due to the top spot being taken by an offensive lineman who is important for many reasons. That said, Brooks has become a monster with the Dolphins.
Brooks led the NFL with 182 total tackles and 99 solo. He was named to his first All-Pro and should have been a Pro Bowler. Regardless, his work ethic and motor are unparalleled.
On top of having 182 total tackles, he also secured 3.5 sacks and 13 tackles for loss. Brooks was named as one of Jon-Eric Sullivan's "pillars" and should be getting a deal sooner rather than later.
1. Aaron Brewer
Center Aaron Brewer is at the top of the list simply due to how Sullivan explained that the most important players are the ones who protect the quarterback. This is not at all a knock on any players listed or those who are huge playmakers.
Brewer has just emerged as a massive component of the Dolphins' run game and protection. He was nominated for Protector of the Year and is ranked as the second-best center on PFF, with an overall grade of 87.4.
Brewer's run blocking grade of 91.5 is at the top. Simply put, he is a mauler and the kind of lineman that does not come around very often.
The Dolphins are likely to hit Brewer with an extension as soon as possible, due to what he can offer for the team in 2026 and beyond. Malik Willis and Achane will both flourish with having a lineman like this, and the organization should lock him down on a new extension before the regular season begins.
