Philadelphia Eagles star A.J. Brown never wants to get complacent.
Philadelphia Eagles star wideout A.J. Brown went to the "most dangerous gym in America" this summer.
Brown, who helped the Eagles win the Super Bowl last season after the Kansas City Chiefs, went to Diamond Gym in Maplewood, New Jersey. The gym includes men recently out of jail or battling drug addiction.
"I had to go to a place, I had to go to my childhood, had to think about some s--- I went through," Brown told ESPN. "I got everything I ever wanted in life, bro. I had to go back down to my childhood, me living in that trailer, starving bro. Then I thought about [my] son. I've got a little boy, he motivated me. I said, 'I'm not going to give up with my son watching me.'"
Brown appeared in 13 games for the Eagles last season. He recorded 67 receptions for 1,079 yards and seven touchdowns, helping Philadelphia go 14-3.
In the 2025 playoffs against the Green Bay Packers, Los Angeles Rams, Washington Commanders and Chiefs, Brown had 12 receptions for 163 yards and two touchdowns.
"When I was younger, I wish I had a mentor," Brown said. "My father did an excellent job but just to see somebody play a professional sport come back in the community, we didn't really have that growing up. And I said, 'I'm going to be that person.'"
A three-time Pro Bowler, Brown enters this season with 446 career receptions for 7,026 yards and 49 touchdowns with the Tennessee Titans and Eagles. He's one of the best wideouts in the NFL and is highly respected by his peers.
Brown, 28, was voted the 29th best player in the league in the annual NFL Top 100 players list.
The Eagles open the 2025 NFL season at home against the rival Dallas Cowboys. Brown is expected to play despite dealing with a hamstring injury.
"I truly feel like I'm the best in the league," Brown said, "and I want to put a stamp on it."
The Chiefs won back-to-back Super Bowls in 2022 and 2023. It will be fascinating to see if Brown and the Eagles can repeat as champions.
