Philadelphia Eagles defensive tackle Moro Ojomo opened up on his game-saving tackle against the Commanders.
The Philadelphia Eagles defense came to play on Sunday in Week 1 against the Washington Commanders.
Much like the 2025 season, the defensive unit for Philadelphia was called upon to make a big play when it mattered most. And again, they delivered for this team.
Late in the fourth quarter, the Eagles defense was able to get a massive stop on a two-point conversion that would have tied the game. Eagles defensive tackle Moro Ojomo got through a block to take down Commanders tight end Jake Bates on a shovel pass, ending the chance for Washington.
Philadelphia then recovered an onside kick, clinching the win in Week 1. But afterward, Ojomo opened up on the game-saving tackle.
“I got off on the ball, took a shot,” Ojomo said. “You kind of got to play it free. I saw the guard pull, spun out of it, the tight end was right there. … You have to play fast, man. And you can’t play indecisive.”
Ojomo only had two tackles in the game, but this came at just the right time. The 25-year-old tackle made a name for himself in Week 1, giving his team the win.
But the entire unit for the Eagles showed up, keeping the Commanders in check for most of the game. Philadelphia looked like the aggressor on defense against Washington, and this will always give a team a chance to win.
Linebacker Zack Baun put on a show for Philadelphia, posting 12 tackles and two pass breakups in the game. Like any new season, Baun didn't know what to expect from the Commanders, but he was happy with how the game went.
“First game comes with a lot of unknowns — especially with a new coordinator, you don’t necessarily know what they’re going to run — and it comes down to fundamentals and techniques,” Baun said. “There were good things and bad things.”
Philadelphia allowed the Commander to covert 5-of-15 on third down, showing an ability to get stops in crucial spots. For the Eagles, this is the type of defense that will be needed if they want to get back to being Super Bowl contenders.
The Eagles can learn a lot from this game, especially on how to close things out. But a win is a win, especially in Week 1 of the season against a division opponent
Next up for the Eagles is a trip to Tennessee in Week 2, as Philadelphia takes on the Titans.
