Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts was given a mixed grade for his performance in the team's loss to the Jaguars.
The Philadelphia Eagles had a heartbreaking loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday in London, with the team failing to execute down the stretch.
Philadelphia took the lead over the Jaguars with eight seconds left, but special teams allowed Jacksonville to go far enough up the field on a kickoff to kick a game-winning field goal. It was a tough loss for an Eagles team that fought all game while being undermanned coming into the contest.
The Eagles were without star running back Saquon Barkley and star wide receiver DeVonta Smith due to hamstring injuries. Philadelphia's offense had been sputtering over the last few weeks, and with the injuries, there were concerns about the team entering the game.
But quarterback Jalen Hurts was able to do just enough to help his team get a win, putting Philadelphia on his back. For the game, Hurts threw for 220 yards and one touchdown, playing with an inexperienced offensive line.
NFL analyst Brent Sobleski of Bleacher Report gave Hurts a letter grade of "C+" for his performance against Jacksonville. Hurts did all he could against a tough Jaguars defense, especially without the services of multiple star players.
His performance wasn't up to par, even with all the odds going against the team in this matchup. Hurts made no excuses after the game, saying that this group needs to be better going forward.
Philadelphia now has lost three games in a row, sitting with a record of 2-3 on the season. The Eagles hot start to the year now looks like a distant memory, and this team could be in some trouble if they aren't careful.
The Eagles are hopeful to get back some key players next week when they host the Carolina Panthers, but that all remains to be seen. Philadelphia has goals of winning a Super Bowl this season, but at least for right now, this group looks lost on offense.
The defense played better against the Jaguars, holding Jacksonville's explosive offene down all game. But this team as a whole just doesn't look right, and it's cost them some winnable games this season.
The blame for this game can't all be put on Hurts, especially since he was playing down a few players on offense. But as the quarterback, Hurts will get the blame and all the criticism for another lackluster offensive performance.
The upcoming game against the Panthers will be a very crucial one, with the Eagles trying to get back to a .500 record.
