The Eagles have a lot to figure out going forward.
The Philadelphia Eagles have made a decision on starting quarterback Jalen Hurts regarding a scary blood clot issue.
Philadelphia will indeed be placing Hurts on injured reserve, which will sideline him indefinitely. According to NFL insider Adam Schefter of ESPN, there were numerous consultations with doctors and experts before the move was made.
The blood clot was revealed earlier this week, with the team ruling Hurts out for the upcoming game against the Carolina Panthers. But this move will now leave the Eagles without Hurts for the foreseeable future.
The health and safety of the star quarterback remains the main priority for the Eagles, and the hope is that Hurts can come back from this. But for now, he will remain out for Philadelphia, with the entire franchise hoping for the best.
Before going out with the injury, Hurts threw for 933 yards with eight touchdown and three interceptions. Hurts rushed for 107 yards and one touchdown on the ground, continuing his dual-threat abilities.
The former Super Bowl MVP will now take the time to heal from the blood clot problem, with his health taking precedent over anything. But the Eagles are hopeful that Hurts will be able to come back from this down the line.
Without Hurts, backup Tanner McKee will take over as the starter for the Eagles, and the team will have to keep the faith that he can get the job done. McKee did start one game for Philadelphia last season, throwing for 274 yards with one touchdown and one interception.
With the Eagles sitting at 2-3 on the season currently, McKee will now be tasked with helping this team get back on track. Philadelphia is also dealing with an ongoing hamstring injury to star running back Saquon Barkley, hurting their chances this week against Carolina.
But McKee has the tools to take down Carolina if the rest of the team can execute their game plan. McKee will be getting back star wide receiver DeVonta Smith for the game, giving the offense a major boost for the week.
Kickoff between the Eagles and Panthers is scheduled for 10:00 p.m. PT/1:00 p.m. ET this weekend.
However, this news about Hurts will take center stage for the Eagles going forward, and it will be something to keep an eye on. More information will be coming out about Hurts, and updates will be provided as they become available in the future.
