The Philadelphia Eagles have signed a Pro Bowl defender to bolster the roster.
The Philadelphia Eagles are coming off a big win in Week 2 of the NFL season, grabbing the second victory of the year. But the front office isn't sitting still, and they have added more talent to an already strong defense.
Philadelphia is signing cornerback Kenny Moore II to the practice squad, adding more depth to the secondary. Moore was a Pro Bowl cornerback with the Indianapolis Colts in 2021, and he has been seen as a top option this offseason.
Moore is expected to earn a deal up to around $3 million this season, according to NFL Network's Mike Garafolo. This suggests that the Eagles will bring Moore to the official roster sooner rather than later.
The veteran has spent his entire career with the Colts after going undrafted in 2017. During his time in the NFL, Moore has bloomed into a strong nickel cornerback, giving Indianapolis a shutdown guy.
Moore has played in at least 14 games each season in five of the last six years. His durability has been huge for the Colts, and now the Eagles will get a chance to see what he can do.
Last season with the Colts, Moore played in 14 games, recording one interception, two forced fumbles, and six pass deflections. For his NFL career, Moore has recorded 21 interceptions, 11.5 sacks, and 649 total tackles in 132 games.
Moore has also played in three playoff games over his career, recording 24 total tackles, 3.0 sacks, and one interception. Adding a proven performer like Moore could make a big impact on the Eagles later in the season.
It may take Moore a little bit to ramp himself up, which is why he starts on the practice squad. Moore was released by the Colts back in May after the two sides couldn't come together on a contract.
The veteran asked to be released, and Indianapolis honored him in this request. But to the surprise of many around the NFL, Moore wasn't signed until now.
Now with the Eagles, Moore is expected to provide the team with a veteran presence in the secondary, adding to the strong unit. Having someone like Moore, who has proven to be able to take the ball away from offenses, could help Philadelphia be even stronger against top units.
The Eagles' defense has been on full display through the first two games of the season, slowing down the Washington Commanders and Tennessee Titans. But Moore now gives them more to work with as the team tries to go after another Super Bowl title.
