Two days after leading the Eagles to a Week 1 win over the Washington Commanders on the football field, Hurts made a $600,000 donation on Tuesday to provide a cooling system for Northeast High School, located along Cottman Avenue in Northeast Philly.
"I've been in your guys' shoes and I know the importance of having support and having the backing to do and achieve whatever dreams that you have," Hurts told students at an event at the school on Tuesday.
According to information shared by organizers ahead of Tuesday's announcement for the donation, more than half of the 218 schools throughout the School District of Philadelphia lack adequate cooling system, which has caused students to miss instruction due to early dismissals during heat waves.
Hurts, organizers said, has developed an "established, personal connection" to the school as he has engaged with students and youth sports organizations and has appeared there with fellow athletes during community empowerment events.
This is just another example of how great of a human Hurts is. The Eagles are very, very lucky to have him as the face of their franchise.
Hurts threw a lot of interceptions in training camp while learning Sean Mannion's offense. Hurts' critics were quick to point that out.
However, in Week 1 against the Commanders, Hurts' naysayers were nowhere to be found. Why? Because the one-time Super Bowl MVP had an outstanding game, going 14/25 through the air for 203 passing yards and three passing touchdowns.
Hurts also had seven carries for 46 rushing yards for the Eagles.
Dallas Goedert caught two touchdown passes and newcomer Dontayvion Wicks caught one in his first game with the Eagles, who are 6-0 in Week 1 with Hurts under center.
Hurts and the Eagles face the Tennessee Titans in Week 2.
Philadelphia will be heavily favored to win that contest.
