Eagles' Tanner McKee Not Happy With How He Played vs Panthers

The Philadelphia Eagles lost to the Carolina Panthers on Sunday, dropping to 2-4.

Philadelphia has lost four straight games after starting the season 2-0.

Tanner McKee started at quarterback in place of Jalen Hurts, who is out indefinitely. McKee went 26-of-45 through the air for 215 yards. He threw one touchdown and was sacked three times.

“First thoughts, my team needs me to be better," McKee said after the game. "I need to be better. I am so much better, and I’m looking forward to learning everything and becoming the player that I know I am, the player that I can prove that I am. A lot of things obviously that were frustrating fall on me. A lot of things we’ve got to get fixed as an offense for sure.”

The Eagles had only 222 yards on offense. They went 6-of-15 on third down and had 11 penalties at home.

“Yeah. I mean, even from the jump, just communication," McKee said. "Whether it was guys in the wrong spot, I’ve got to get them fixed or a missed call, I’ve got to get it fixed. That falls on the quarterback. That is nobody else’s responsibility but the quarterback’s. That’s on me. We had two drives that stalled just from miscommunications or things like that, that I’ve got to get fixed. I think I’ve got to settle down a little quicker. Obviously, those first two drives were some of those drives that stalled because of the miscommunication. So, I’ve got to go out and be ready to roll. I felt like I was just prepared and everything, but I’ve got to be able to make those adjustments on the fly.”

The Eagles started the season 2-0. They beat the Washington Commanders in Week 1 and barely beat the Tennessee Titans in Week 2.

Since then, Philadelphia has lost to the Chicago Bears, Los Angeles Rams, Jacksonville Jaguars and Panthers.

Hurts has 933 passing yards, eight passing touchdowns, three interceptions, 107 rushing yards and one rushing touchdown this season. He's completing 57.8% of his passes.

Hurts entered this season with 17,891 passing yards, 110 passing touchdowns, 3,554 rushing yards and 63 rushing touchdowns in his career. He's made the Pro Bowl three times and won Super Bowl LIX MVP against the Kansas City Chiefs.

The Eagles signed Hurts to a five-year, $255 million extension in April 2023. However, there is little guaranteed money left on Hurts' deal after the 2026 season.

A talented runner and thrower, Hurts finished the 2025 season with 3,224 passing yards, 25 passing touchdowns, 421 rushing yards and eight rushing touchdowns. He completed 64.8% of his passes.

It's unknown if Hurts will play again this season, as blood clots are very serious. The Eagles placed Hurts on injured reserve.

Philadelphia will miss the playoffs this season if Hurts doesn't play again. 2020 was the last time the Eagles didn't make the postseason.

McKee and Co. face the Dallas Cowboys next week on Monday Night Football. Dallas is 2-4 like Philadelphia.

McKee has 812 passing yards and six passing touchdowns in his career. He's completing 60.2% of his passes.

If the Eagles miss the playoffs this season, head coach Nick Sirianni could get fired in the offseason.
