ESPN highlighted Philadelphia Eagles WR Dontayvion Wicks' Week 1 performance against the Washington Commanders.
Dontayvion Wicks' first game with the Philadelphia Eagles went very, very well.
Not only did the Eagles beat the Washington Commanders at home, but Wicks also had two catches for 73 yards and a touchdown.
"Wicks had two catches for 73 yards and a touchdown against the Commanders. His 64-yard catch-and-run in the first half marked the longest reception of his career, providing a much-needed spark to the Eagles' new-look offense. Wicks, acquired via trade from the Packers in April, has assumed the role of WR2 behind DeVonta Smith. QB Jalen Hurts and Wicks built a rapport over the spring and summer, and it translated to Week 1," ESPN's Tim McManus wrote.
The Eagles acquired Wicks from the Green Bay Packers in the offseason. Wicks and new Philadelphia OC Sean Mannion have a strong relationship because they worked together in Green Bay.
It's just one game, but so far, the Eagles' offense looks like it will be explosive despite A.J. Brown no longer being on the team.
"Obviously my background with Tay, you could always see the talent," Mannion said about Wicks. "It was a deep position group in Green Bay. To answer your question, yeah, we could see him making big plays. He made a ton of big plays. The Detroit game last year was a good example. We had caught a through route really to ice the game in four-minute, we caught a double move in that game.
"You could always see it. It was his playtime there or whatever, it wasn’t an indication of his talent level. It was more just the depth of that room in Green Bay in particular. So, now he’s got an opportunity to get some more snaps week one and really thrive with them. I’m not surprised. He’s been working super hard. He’s got a ton of ability. He’s totally bought in to the program here that [Head Coach] Nick [Sirianni]’s laid in place, and it came to life on Sunday."
The Eagles face the Tennessee Titans in Week 2.
