Several teams attended, but if the Eagles land this young player, there could be a very interesting competition this offseason in Philadelphia.

Howie Roseman and the Philadelphia Eagles have entered this offseason with their work cut out for them. They had some issues to address that started in the coaching staff, and after free agency, they now have some holes to fill defensively as well.

In the first few days, they lost quite a few pieces like Nakobe Dean, Reed Blankenship, and Jaelan Phillips, among others. They were, however, able to retain some talent in-house, like TE Dallas Goedert as well as K Jake Elliott.

The move to bring back Elliott was met with a bit of pushback from some fans. In the past two seasons, Elliott's numbers have fallen off a cliff, especially from 50+ yards out. His last two seasons resulting in sub-80% accuracy is not a good sign.

With him not having an ideal past two seasons by any means, many among the Eagles faithful were hoping that someone would at least be brought in for competition.

With news recently about the Eagles being among several teams to attend UTSA's pro day this offseason, them speaking to one of the top talents of the day could shed some light on their plans at the position.

Eagles Checked Out UTSA Kicker Jaffer Murphy

While there aren't many UTSA players who will be organization changers in this upcoming draft, many teams sent their scouts to their Pro Day to do their due diligence.

With 18 total teams in attendance, Philadelphia was among them, and what they saw from UTSA kicker Jaffer Murphy was nothing short of incredible.

Jaffer Murphy stunned scouts and stole headlines with an incredible 4.47 40-yard dash as well as going 12-13 on his field goals, including one from a staggering 70 yards out.

Murphy had an interesting path through college football. He actually attended a slew of schools before landing at UTSA. He, like many kickers nowadays, started his career as a soccer player for the Drake Bulldogs before transferring to Florida Gulf Coast University.

He finally picked up football when he landed at Division II Lake Erie College. He only went a lackluster 13/21 on field goals, but did hit a 60-yarder while there. From there, he was one of Bill Belichick's first transfers in his time at UNC. After they brought in another kicker, he decided to finish his career at UTSA.

Even at UTSA, he didn't win the kicking competition, but became their kickoff specialist thanks to his leg strength. For all these reasons, he was not on anybody's radar. That has now changed.

It was reported that Murphy spoke with over a dozen teams, so it's safe to say that with only 18 teams making an appearance, it's likely the Eagles were one of those teams.

If the Eagles want to take a chance on someone who is seemingly a freak athlete, there could be some major upside in signing Murphy as an UDFA. Worst-case scenario, maybe this could give Jake Elliott some motivation to return to form.
