Howie Roseman's only saving grace at this point would be if he had an ace up his sleeve. If not, this could be his worst offseason ever as GM.

This is getting a little out of hand at this point. The NFL's legal tampering period began today, which signaled to many teams that the start of free agency was upon us. Among those many teams, it seems as though the Philadelphia Eagles may have missed the memo.

The Eagles went into today with a laundry list of free agents that they had to attend to on both sides of the football. These weren't guys who were deep in the depth chart either. We're talking about names like Jaelan Phillips, Nakobe Dean, Reed Blankenship, and Jahon Dotson, among others.

So far in the day, the signings have not gone in favor of the Eagles. They lost Jaelan Phillips to the Carolina Panthers, Nakobe Dean to the Las Vegas Raiders, and Jahon Dotson to the Atlanta Falcons.

Now, the fourth player I listed has also signed a new deal elsewhere, leaving many to ask if Howie Roseman is asleep at the wheel.

Texans Sign Reed Blankenship in Free Agency

It was announced that the Houston Texans have signed safety Reed Blankenship to a 3-year $24.75 million deal. This is less than he was being projected to earn by most, which will leave many Eagles fans scratching their heads.

Blankenship, as mentioned, was a pillar of the defense and one of the hearts of their secondary. It has nothing to do with his play, but he was also a fan favorite as a member of the 'Exciting Whites' duo of himself and Cooper DeJean.

Blankenship has played all four years of his NFL career in Philadelphia and was a major part of winning the Super Bowl, and he had a knack for frequently coming through in the biggest moments for the Eagles.

The Eagles could look to replace him with Oregon safety Dillon Thieneman in this year's draft. Thieneman plays very similarly and is an athletic freak who tested unbelievably at the combine. Pairing him and Cooper DeJean together would in some way carry on the 'Exciting Whites' tradition.

For Howie Roseman, though, this is about as poor a start to the offseason as you could imagine. They did extend DT Jordan Davis, but after losing out already on four of your own major free agents on day one, it looks to many Eagles fans like he may have lost his offseason fastball.

Hopefully for Gang Green, he's got an ace up his sleeve.
